Just back from a few hours in the forest still a few fires around it's spring and have had fires for three months now. Stopped and took a pic kind of shows how dry it's getting.
The ttr loves the warm days and Is going well no need to wash the bike it only gets dusty . Got tomorrow off work so a long Monday ride is planned.

Yesterday one of the forests I ride in where I took the photo above burnt and is still burning 4000hectares in the day and burnt around 100homes ect last night so all the forests are closed for a while .
We have had fires for a few months but yesterday it all turned nasty. My side of town hasn't burnt yet so just watching and waiting should be OK
Here's a pic looking south before it turned Bad

Really horrible Les. We get updates on our BBC news. It seems that wildfires either in California or Oz are almost constantly in the news sadly. Really devastating for people, wildlife and the environment.
Stay vigilant and safe.
Brian
PS I wish we could send you some of the persistent heavy rain that the UK is suffering with at the moment to dampen your forests down a tad!
Thanks things have settled down a bit unfortunately another lady died nearby last night
A couple of friends still have houses but the ones to each side are gone. Still nothing this side of town as yet Just smoke
The rain would be a nice change if you can send it over . Fires normaly happen this time of year but Friday was a bit different in that the area burnt in the one day was equal to all the fires last year times 2 in one day still hard to believe.
Can't do much the forests are still closed and most of the main roads in the area are closed for a while yet.
Really quiet today without the wster bombers flying around I think they have gone further north where it's still pretty bad
The ttr is siting in the shed with no jobs to do so it's just sitting for now
ntoday is a waiting game , expecting later today to be fairly ordinary
finally go a message from a mate he has his house , but lost his sheds inducing 9 bikes 2 quads and 2 cars amongst everything else , his Sherco he rides made it through , and hes still stuck with 2 Hondas lol
hes still looking forward to getting out on the trails as it will be a lot clearer now , we have one remaining forest that comes up to my house in tact , may go today but it would be nice to have one bit of forest left to ride in soon
Good luck mate, NSW & Queensland have been hit hard, SA has been hit hard over the last 5 yrs but I think we are all burnt out. We have always lived on the edge of the hills & had our fair amount of fires close by & I can't say it's gets any easier.
We used to hear the fire alarm, look out & see a red glow, a few yrs ago the water bombing aircraft were so low over our place you could see the whites of the pilots eyes.
In 2015 the fire was only 4kms away & lucky for us my workshop foreman was on leave otherwise I would have been on holidays & our Border collie would have been at the kennels...the kennels got burnt & killed the dogs & cats, very sad.
It's shocking to see the wildlife burnt, Roos, horses etc. very sad. We have to reduce the fuel on the ground & clear trees, take some steps to slow or reduce the fires
thanks for the reply , my family donated a heap of stuff a the local vets to help out a bit . will do again later in the week
today's a bit better with all but two local fires kind of under control as of last night we had 3 million hectares burnt in the lasts few days .( hard to comprehend )
looking forward to getting back out on the tracks the last bit of local forest burnt last night , so no doubt be pretty sooty but thinned out a lot
Still no end to the fires each time it looks like things will improve they come back , all still ok here but the forests are still closed , never experienced the forests being closed for more than a couple of days , the TTr is looking bored .
We had 42c yesterday with extreme winds, not a good combo !!! burnt through the area I rode the Triumph two up with the wife last Sunday, houses, machinery, cars etc. but no loss of life reported so far.
yeah ive seen that on the news , looks nasty , and hot down your way
we are still in the smoke its that thick the street lights come on through the day , im driving 400ks for work today relying on headlights to see the oncoming traffic at times .the fire front in NSW is currently at 3000kms which is much bigger than usual . it looks like the only way it will slow down is some rain .
in the town i live in we have 60 days water left as the river has all but stopped running first time for that as well .
i have a couple of days off next week might get a ride in on Wednesday if some of the forests are re opened
I read a volunteer fire fighter had been arrested for arson. If guilty he wants stringing up. (And four in Brazil. Dammit, half the world's burning ) Still got fingers crossed for you all. Ride safe (with spark arresters) Simon.

Nothing unusual about that, here is SA the police have a list of people to keep an eye on, also many CFS members have been caught lighting fires, they started taking photos at fires then check back with faces. String them up on a post & light a fire under them.
Heard on the news this morning that the fires are still burning, crazy, is this the longest? Hope everyone is safe and shame nature is getting a hammering

Yep still burning drove home from work yesterday through smoke and fire with a wster bomber chopper overhead in case the road was impacted
We normally have fires but not to this extent
We have been in smoke for most of the last five months with no end in site
Sitting on the lounge this morning I can see about 100meters
I'm considering a road ride tomorrow as no forests are open at the moment. So might destroy some knobies on the tar tomorrow so the ttr Gets out
The bush that burnt first up is starting to green up a bit so will be back to good riding soon
There have been huge areas burnt but still a lot untouched but closed as its very dry
Went and did 100ks in the not burnt yet forest had a ball so many old tracks have been cleared by the dozers as fire breaks for when it burns. Very dry and all powder.
Thanks Terry it's a bit hard to explain the pics are spot on for the warmer days . We have another bad fire day that's just about to start. Still can't see whats going on for the smoke will be dodging the fires again today
Really over them now this is how it looks from the shed this morning

I thought the photos would show the overseas members just how bad the fires are, the destruction is huge & feel so sorry for the wildlife, stories of Roos with their feet burnt off, shocking stuff, the east coast has had a bad run with the fires in NSW & Queensland
The ttr would have been nervous some idiot lit a fire behind my street so have been up since 1am with the fire trucks ext it's now out and it's time to head to work .

A high % of the fires are lit by idiots or back burning out of control, our previous two houses were in high risk areas on the edge of the hills, this house still close but not such a risk as the previous two.
Took the Dr out in the unbent stuff yesterday rode five hours. Took the ttr out in the opposite direction today a bit shorter four hours. Got to say the ttr is my favorite
Fingers crossed the fires stay quiet

On a plus side, (there always got to be an upside) the Australian eucalyptus forests have adapted to the fires and do regenerate.
The best bit from a riders point of view is the undergrowth gets thinned out and you get a better idea of the hills and valleys and creeks you didn't even know were there.
About 10 years ago one of my local areas was burnt out, it was mainly 4wd tracks and some nice single tracks. Now there is probably 5 times the number of single tracks that that link up that riders developed after the fires. These tracks probably wouldn't have evolved without that fire.
And because of the easier access I always thought it would be a good idea to get a metal detector and walk the creeks after the fires looking for gold, but never have.
Spot on its already starting to recover if only it would rain. Just has another fire startup 4kms on the north side of my house last bit left to burn got water bombers flying over as I type this. Really over theses fires but it's good it's not summer yet
