Front suspension jitter
Permalink

Hi all

I've been noticing some jitter from my handlebars when riding off-road. Front wheel bearing is fine. One of the shocks also has a bit of a squeak and both feel a bit soft.

Is this jitter indicative of leaking seals? It has done 30k km at least so i wouldn't be surprised.

if the seals are crook you'd be seeing oil weeping out , mines pushing 70K and still on the original seals springs ext .

I do change the oil every 12 months or so as it does break down and lose its ability to work correctly ( feels good once its done )

i run 7.5w synthetic oil , at 100mm from the top 13 clicks out ( bottom screw ) no air pressure

the 10mm higher oil level takes the dive out of the front end with out heavier springs so still have the nice TTr forks but no dive .

just happens to work for Me ( got the info and settings from a suspension Guy who did my rear shock )

I wasn't aware that the oil breaks down. I'll go do a thorough check for leaks. If I cannot see any leak then I'll just replace the oil and see if that fixes it.

Thanks for the advice!

They way it was explained to me is the polymer chains in the oil being forced through the  valves brake down over time loosing it's effectivness  .your may still have the original oil which may be well past it's use by  . If so it may  have quite a bad odour when flushing it out.
