20190711_141553.jpgHello from Australia. My names Luke and I'm new to forums.  My son has 2011 ttr 50 and my daughter has a yamaha 80.I have a ttr 250 1994 model. It is very orginal and has 2000 kms on it,  like brand new really. I have got the old girl going again and discovered an oil leak in the stator and flywheel side cover. There is only one bike in Australia that is wrecking and that part has already gone and the only spare part I can find is from a 2001 model.

My question if any one could help is will it fit.... is the bottom end the same from 1994 to 2001. They look the same but I cannot find any info anywhere20190711_141553.jpg

Welcome to the forum Luke. No need to post twice - heard you the first time biggrin

The left side is the same throughout as far as I'm aware. Only the right side changed when they went from 6 to 7 plate clutch around 2000.

Has the side cover cracked or is it just the stator wiring rubber bung/grommet thingy leaking?

LOL - well done Simon - you beat me to it

Just a quick check Luke, is the sprag clutch OK with no nasty bang on shut down? It's just that the kickback from a worn sprag has been know to crack the stator cover causing an oil leak.

Brian

Hello Brian. It does make a slapping sloppy bang when I start it but not when I shut it down. I did find metal filings under the stator cover where it joins the starter cog and the starter is an after market I presumed because the teeth were wearing away, which is what I thought that noise was'' the slipping and slapping on the starter cog as it was getting chewed up''.but this only happens when it's cold. Because once it is up to help it fires immediately.

I read more on the forum and it seems that cheap Chinese starters would be the culprit.. I was wondering where I could get a starter that was quality because all I can find is cheap Chinese crap and I don't want to have to keep fixing the same problem. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks

Sorry Brian. I jumped the gun because I think I've found you already have written about it all.

Hi Luke, I have a 2010 model and when the cover was leaking oil, it turned out to be the gasket near the wiring grommet. The gasket had a break of well over 1mm, was leaving oil everywhere. replaced the gasket and problem solved.
Now, to the next part. i also have a 2001 bike for parts, missing tank, seat and a few other bits, including the left engine case. If you have gotten hold of another casing, would you be willing to sell you old one? I am looking for one so i can seal up the engine, keep dirt and dust out.
Cheers,
Rob.

Hi Rob. I brought a new cover and it took 4 weeks to arrive. I sold the bike while i was waiting for the cover to arrive.I was going to put the cover back on ebay but you can have first dibs on it if you want. It cost me $150.

Thanks Luke, but I will pass on that, a bit more than I wanted to pay.
Just looking to keep dust and dirt out of the engine.
