Swinging Arm Bearings
Permalink

Morning All

I spend the day yesterday replacing the bearings in the front and rear wheels, which apart from a few rusted spacers all went ok. I then moved onto the swinging arm šŸ˜«.

Ā 3 hours of hitting, heatingĀ  and screaming and finally the bearings were removed. I then tried to gently knock one bearing in and all the needles fell out as I damaged the wall of the bearing. Anyways I have sourced a new bearing and don't want to make the same mistake again.

Ā I have read Brian's guide to fitting where he uses a threaded bar and washers but I was after anymore tips to make this a easier process.

Ā

Regards

MatthewĀ

About 6 months ago I used Brianā€™s method and it worked perfectly.

I was once told that ā€œknockingā€ in a Bearing is not a good idea, you need to ā€œpressā€ them in, which is basically what Brianā€™s method does.

The right sized Socket and a Vice is also a good method.

Cheers

Jeff
