Hello all, my 1999 250 TTR Enduro is brilliant and love it only used to go to the shops on dry days.only 8800kms. Reading posts on this page it appears that to hear a clunk when the engine is turned of is a sign that a sprag clutch is on its way out. My bike starts and runs fine. Do I have a problem????
My only small problem is when my handle bars are turned to full right lock the engine cuts out, but restarts again on the button. Anyone ever heard off this please????
The clunk on shut down is allowed by the sprag clutch. How loud the clunk is indicates how worn the sprag clutch and the Gear 3's boss it runs on are. Do you know what mileage your sprag has done from new?
Trail riding with the more constant stop/starts put a lot of wear on a sprag whereas commuting not so much.
If you are mechanically sympathetic and the clunk is more of a bang and makes you wince then it's time for a new sprag!
I am struggling to think of the cause of your TTR cutting out when the bars are on a full right lock The ignition switch is on the frame and I can't think that bar movement could cause an issue with any of its connections. The only wire that runs up to the handlebars that could cause the engine to cut out is the one going to the kill switch. Could that be shorting somewhere or have a loose/damaged wire/connection into the loom?
After my earlier thread I would definitely look at the sprag and possibly this could save the idler gears and starter, I didnt think my knock was bad but the sprag was seized just like one of the help links on here starter badly worn
