I had a conversation with a friends a couple of years ago, "Maybe I should be looking for a TTR250, or similar..." Phil said, "I've got one of those. You can have it. If you don't, I'm taking it to the tip."
So a few days later I added an 02 TTR to my collection.
Bit of a Yamaha tragic with a separate love for 3 cylinder Triumphs. And sidecars. And road racing. And all road touring. etc
If you are on AdvRider, you'll recognise the name. Whilst I like photography, the tripod bit refers to my sidecars. My current one is my fourth. Unreg at the moment, as I've been riding the 955, racing the LC, fixing everything else and other stuff.
Anyway, this is where I started with the TTR. That was a blue tank. I think Phil was honest when he said it had sat in a paddock for a while.
I have the engine been seen to. It's got a new piston & ring kit and the head has been done. Just waiting for some bits for the mechanic to re-assemble it.
In view of that, yesterday I disassembled the rolling chassis. The only thing I broke was a rusted in phillips head screw at the very rear of the frame. Everything else came to pieces easily. Bit of heat and it should come out, no drama.
Turned it for you. Cubber
I can see I need to find out how to auto rotate photos...

Welcome to the forum Ray! Interesting back story you have there
It is surprising how well a badly treated TTR can scrub up as I hope you will discover.
The beauty of the TTR is that very little changed since it's introduction in 1993 and virtually all OEM parts are still available along with a good range of after-market parts and accessories.
I haven't seen a tank quite as sun bleached as yours but have worked on similar damage and most of it can be scraped off with a Stanley blade or craft knife blade. It'll make a hell of a mess though so best not to do it on your lounge
The carb will need special atention and a thorough clean, not forgetting to ream the pilot jet with a bit of copper wire as ultrasonic cleaning and carb cleaner don't always do a complete job
Good luck and, any questions, just ask.
Brian
PS I am sure that you have found the Totally TTRs shop already but just in case you haven't, click here
Cheers. I was going to give the plastics a go over with a hot air gun, as a first attempt.
I've started a project thread for the bike too. S'pose you're across that already.
