First ride on my engine overhaul
Permalink

Hey everybody! Gleaming with pride today as I took my first ride on my project bike since the engine overhaul was finished. I’m so happy with how it feels and sounds. So far, it’s had a valve rebuild, new timing chain and cam gears, piston and rings, honed cylinder, new clutch, rebuilt the carb, replaced the linkage and swingarm bearings. Luckily the starter clutch was mint, but I replaced the starter because it had dried out seals. My rear shock is with a rebuilder currently and I have new parts for the front shocks. The frame has been mostly painted with black semi gloss rustoleum(it’s actually a previous matte black coat in the photos), and I painted the swimgarm with some paint made for aluminum castings. I swapped a handful of the better parts from my spares, and also polished up and repacked a GYTR muffler that I found on eBay. I also rejetted and pulled the snorkel to go with the exhaust upgrade.

Here are a few random photos. Also a link to Instagram to see a short video of the action.

Good work so far. Are you going to restore the rest to its former glory as well?

Yes, right now I need to ride it more than anything. But next will be front shocks, refurb the seat and paint the plastic, get her registered. The real goodies will come once the ol’ man teaches me to weld. I’ve got plans for a cargo rack, and a lighting rack with a winch mount.
