Hi, I'm from the blue mountains in Sydney Australia.
I am a motorbike newbie so sorry for any dumb questions in advance.
I have wanted a bike for me and my teenage son for some time, I did some research on the web and came across this forum which helped me decide I wanted a ttr250. Thanks for all the great info.
I just bought a bike yesterday, 2006 model(I'll attach a pic)
I rode it all day yesterday and it was great, when I went to start it this morning I ran into a problem.
When I turned the fuel line on fuel just poured out of a small tube that comes out of the carburetor.
I turned it off, refilled the fuel tank and tried again.
Now when I turn the fuel line on no petrol leaks out but the bike won't start. Grrrr
There are 2 things that may or may not be worth mentioning
1. The bike might have been started briefly while the fuel line was set to off
2. The bike was left overnight leaning quite far to the left hand side( kick stand side) as it was parked on a sloping driveway.
Can running the engine with the fuel line off create a vacuum or anything? Can leaning the bike cause the float in the Carby to malfunction?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
If the TTR had been standing unused for a while then it's possible that your first run on it has shaken up the fuel and may have clogged the fuel filters or pilot jet.
First off, switch off the fuel tap, put a big rag under the carb to catch waste fuel, loosen the carb float bowl drain screw and check that you get a good flow of fuel when the fuel tap is switched back on.
If no fuel flows then you have a blockage or, more unusual, the float has stuck in the up/closed position.
If fuel flows it may flush out any crud in the bottom of the bowl but it proves the fuel lines are clear and the float is moving.
Does the TTR try and start if you pull the choke on, give the throttle a few sharp turns to pump in some fuel and then leave the throttle closed? If so, it might indicate a blocked pilot jet.

PS Lots of info here but you may need to wade through to find what you need
