After initially attempting to replace what I thought was a leaking head gasket (turned out to be the decompressor plug) I now have the top end of my TTRs engine off and sat on the bench, to be honest the whole engine is sat on the bench after I thought it would be easier to give it a spruce up and give the frame a touch up at the same time with it out.
After lots of degreasing and agitating with stuff brushes and scotchbrite etc it still looks pretty grubby, any tips on bringing it back up to a better finish on a (close to zero) budget?
Was looking to get the jet washer on it later this week, (if only I had a dishwasher it would be in that), would that bring it up a bit better, any other suggestions for cleaning?
Also I presume a quick blow over with some silver high temp paint would refresh it, anything in-particular recommended?
Well the pressure washer came out tonight, it helped a lot, don’t think I will get much more off now so the next job is a bit of silver paint to tart it up, any recommendations?
Any type of car paint seems to work OK, I have only ever use the gun metal grey ordinary spray, as I tried the aluminium engine stuff once and it got all gooey when hot
Glad you got it clean, future reference I use the road film removal cleaner and that work a treat.
Steve
Edit bit, missed the G of Glad!

I was just looking at high temp paint but as you say it needs to be cured and is soft until then. I have baked it on before to exhaust manifolds in the oven at work, still rubbed off!
Wheel paint is very robust. Rustoleum Ultimate reange looms very good. Just done a trials bike frame in this. Dont touch for 4 days after spraying unless you like fingerprints...

Thank you, oddly enough I was looking through Halfords website last night (mainly to see what my trade card gave me discount wise) and saw wheel paint and wondered if it would be any good as well.
I’ll keep you all updated with what I go for and how it comes out...
