Paintwork looks in really good condition! Still has the really nice finish to the cylinder head! Seems to fade on the blueys.

Like the big handguards, what brand are they?

You are right Malcolm! The anodising (I assume that is the finish) holds up a lot lot better on the older bikes.

Hi,

The frame forward of the swinging arm is really good, behind is a bit flakey (paint) and a bit of corrosion. It not that bad having looked at it but its worth sorting it out I think. The hand guards just have "Yamaha" on them, no other marking.

The original headlight can be seen in the top photo. Mounts onto the headlight guard/bar 😁

Paint...and hope it matches reasonably well...(even though it will all be covered up once the bike is back together). The finish is a bit better than it looks in the picture, honest.

The paint does look close compared to one of the grab rails, but has come out very slightly darker, it is purple but looks blue here. I had it made up locally.

Hi,

I have started to re-assemble the TTR now the paint is done.

Having not taken it apart myself, its a matter of finding the bits, (3 boxed of loose items came with the bike) and fitting them. So with that in mind... where does this bit go? It would appear that the two breather pipes connect to it, but not sure where it bolts down. Proberly behind the battery box.

Now a "silly" question, is this a tool box? I seems to fit where I am holding it, nowhere else it will go!

That little breather bracket holder goes onto the bolt on the bottom left side of the screen. You can see a small cut out in the plastic airbox just to the right of it. The breather tubes kink round that cut out and connect to the metal bracket.

And yes! That is a tool box, and goes exactly there! Good detective skills! :D

It fits under the Raid side panels

Hi,

I've Been doing a bit more putting the Raid together, and have another silly question. Where does this mount? I think it should go onto the air box and have the oil breather pipe connected (the one hanging down), but I cannot find where to bolt it onto and seem to have a hose missing for the top most connection...I hope that this makes sense! As ever, all advice will be appreciated.

Also, one of the breather pipes in my last question is too short and I cannot route it to fit, so will probably tie wrap it to the frame as is?

Its the emulsion pot and connects to the various breather pipes on the TTR.

It fits just infront the the airbox, below the carb connecting tube.

The pipe from the top connects to the airbox and the straight out connector on the size connects to the engine breather pipe in the top of the engine

Well I've had a look and have now connected it via the hoses, I had connected the long one direct to the air box when I fitted it .

I did find a picture of a blue ttr box and there was a bracket for the pot to connect to, but I do not have the bracket, so it is "floating" in the gap supported just by the hoses, is this OK There is no weight, but I'm not sure.

So next question...the long hose in my 2nd and 3rd photos, does that just hang down as a drain? There is a similar one in Moo's picture. The other end goes up to the bracket under the seat.

Thanks, I am quite pleased with it, I have just stripped and primed ready to paint the sub-frame brace strut because I thought it looked a bit tatty in the latest picture and then thought I had better do the rear grab handles too.... I am getting it together though, hopefully it will be ready soon.

Funnily enough, I live about a mile from the sea, and I got it from sussex on the south coast, but it appears to have had an easyish life. The rust I sorted out wasn't too bad so quite lucky I guess.

My recollection is that the bracket is pop riveted to the airbox and your rivets look to still be there - just no bracket.

These are the breather tubes with all their fittings. The arrows include the one-way valves. Check they are operating by blowing and sucking on the tubes wink They can seize up with dirt.

The RH tube runs down between the swingarm and frame and the shorter LH one clips to the emulsifier as shown in the photo below:

Nice bike, but stupid question....

Referring to the one way valves in the picture, what do they do?? as i have not done anything with them in the last 18 years . Surely they are blocked?? blankstare biggrin biggrin

Thanks Brian very helpful, I am definitely missing the bracket, I will have to try in make something as I should think they are quite elusive! I watched your removing the carb video but stopped when I saw the drain pot, so will need to watch in again right to the end...that'll teach me!! (I'm fairly confident there will be more questions).

Hi Gents,

So I have the bracket fitted for the oil breather pot (thanks Steve), I cleaned and painted it first and on it went. I have pretty much got the bike all together today, connected the battery and have high beam but no low beam and no brake lights, I think that might be the bulbs so will get a new ones tomorrow, I turned the engine over and all seemed good so happy about that! Horn and indicators working too, so everything seems to be connected up OK. Tomorrow I will change the oil and filter, grease the rear shock links and fit a new chain and sprockets, then get some fresh fuel and see if it starts, happy days!

Oh yes, once I had fitted everything, I found the oil breather bracket that was missing, typical! Still, I suppose I've got a spare now which is sure to be very useful hmm .

Also, its got hazard flashers, never had a bike with those before biggrin

So... On to todays quiz, where does this bit of foam go? I am sure its from the bike, under the seat or tank I imagine, or have I just got it mixed up with all the bits and pieces I had in boxes.

I saw a thread a little while ago about the side stand needing to be shortened when a lowering link is fitted, how much needs to be cut off, as I'm going to need to sort that out too.

A few more jobs done today, Including changing the chain and sprockets. Getting the front sprocket lock nut off was fun, I enlisted the assistance of SWMBO, who was really happy to help...

So the original gearing fitted was 18T front and 57T rear, which doesn't equate to anything I have read about, I have no clue how that would have ridden, I am fitting 14/48, which I have seen recommended (these came in the box of spares along with the chain). I will need to buy a deep socket too as the one I have only just fits, no way I will be able to tighten it properly as it is. Still, more tools is always a good thing!

Well...

its done and ready for its MOT, there are a couple of fasteners that need changing as I have used the wrong ones (because I wanted to get it all together and wasn't patient enough to sort them out, see if you can spot them!), but its is ready to ride.

Now its back together, most of the work I have done is hidden, but I am happy with the paint I did and I am pretty sure that I have put all the bits back in the right place. Definitely makes it a bit more of a challenge if you don't take something apart yourself, but then have to put it all back together, so I would like to say thank you to everyone who answered my questions here on the forum, it was a very helpful.

In fact, today I sat on the bike for the very first time and even rode it around the garden a couple of times, well managed a couple of feet up figure eights on my little lawn at least! I had been worried that it was a tall bike, but I'm pretty much flat footing both sides ( I have fitted a lowering link), this is a real bonus for me. The seat feels like its going to be really comfy, the rear shock felt very soft so will need to adjust that and the side stand definitely doesn't need to be shortened as it sits pretty well. There you go, almost a road test report for the 50-100 meters I have ridden it so far biggrin . I'm looking forward to getting out properly once the tax , test and insurance are sorted.
