Since I bought my Blue TTR a couple of months ago I've given it a few outings, come off it a few times, had a fair bit of fun and have now carried what I feel are the necessary repairs and maintenance/mods to make it a really reliable and useable tool with a bit more oomph than it used to have. I decided not to mess with the airbox snorkel after watching that "dirty way round" video and I haven't messed with the carb or the jets either. It runs great now, sounds a bit more throaty without being anti-social and I don't see the point of trying to modify this neat little 250 engine any more in an attempt to wring a few more hp out of it. It's good enough now as it is.
Specifically, the work I've done on it is as follows:-
Mechanical:
·Shorty s/s header pipe & copper gasket (ups the oomph - can't say by how much but it does)
·Modified standard exhaust (34mm end pipe) Also increases power - again, can't say by how much but it's definitely more torquey
·NGK Iridium spark plug (smoothed the engine out no end)
·New oil, filter & gaskets
·New front sprocket gearbox oil seal (not leaking oil anymore)
·New 13/48 sprockets (best mod I did I think. Now I can really get to grips with things in the mud and tricky sections)
Chassis:
·New speedo drive & 3 point tab washers (speedo now works)
·New fork gaitors
·Forks overhauled, cleaned out, new oil and damping calibrated (massive difference after doing this)
·CONTOUR tapered 28.5mm handlebars
·12mm (under clamp) bar riser spacers (bit easier to stand up on the bike now)
·New rear brake pads (front ones are fine)
·New DID chain
·New Blue Polisport hand guards
·New knobblies (Mitas C18 Rear & C19 front) Vast improvement on the muddy stuff with these bad boys
·New Blue anodized adjustable clutch and brake levers (brilliant invention. So much easier to use than the standard levers)
·Heated grips (adjustable temperatures) - absolutely vital on cold and wet rides.
·12v SatNav / phone charger socket (very useful for charging the sat Nav or phone when miles away from civilization)
Many thanks to those on the forum who advised me on some tricky maintenance jobs and to Steve and Lisa for supplying the parts I needed.
