Hi everyone, A couple months ago I started my bike only to see blue smoke start coming out of the exhaust. It went away shortly after pushing in the choke. I let it go and just figured I'd do a rebuild this winter. But after the starting the bike several times throughout the past couple months i have noticed that the smoke comes and goes. one day it will pour white and blue smoke and the next none at all, and sometimes just a little bit. I thought it was the rings but now Im not to sure. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? outside temp maybe? thanks
If your TTR isn't using oil then it's likely VSOs as Les suggests. Although annoying, best leave them until you need to get the head off for another reason and replace them at that stage
If your TTR is using oil then it's a different matter. If significant then start to think about a strip down and fitting new rings or a rebore.
I actually just went outside and pressure washed the bike. When I want out to get the bike it had condensation all over it. So I decided to wash it since it was already wet. When I started it there was almost nothing just a tiny little bit and it was all white smoke(from washing I think) so I think your right.
if you are only starting every few months... white 'smoke" could just be moisture in the pipe.. i think you need to use it to really get a idea if it is burning oil or not and if the blue smoke is there all the time...
my TTR spends alot of time sitting unused... it will blow smoke till it is warmed up
then the pipe is clean...
