Carb Rebuild--parts leftover!

I just rebuilt the carb on my '04 (USA version). Bought a kit on eBay. All was going well, especially with this useful thread: http://ttr250.activeboard.com/t55374798/rebuilding-a-ttr250-teikei-y30p-carburettor/?page=1 , until I got done and had a very small spring and some sort of tiny piston type thing remaining on the bench. Argh! I've attached a picture in hopes that someone can tell me where these two pieces are supposed to go. Thanks in advance.

Don't recognise them! The spring looks too heavy to be part 38 confuse

Could they possibly not be parts from your carb but off something else?

Thanks for the reply. I'd already studied that diagram over and over. I see nothing even close to my spare parts and have installed all the other things contained in it. I really can't see how I would have gotten parts from something else mixed in--at least this time. : ) However, that may be the only answer I'm left with. Maybe I should put the carb back on the bike and see how it runs, huh?

I have counted the rings on part number 38 which I stock and there is eight, same amount as the one in your photo, but the new one measures 11mm

If you have checked all your parts, trying it running would be a good idea.

I have been rebuilding a carb today and still can't fathom what the little brass cylinder part is. I didn't come across it! It looks like it has provision for a spring to sit on its end.

Is it tarnished the same all over? Just checking that it hasn't broken off something else. Thought it might be part of the choke mechanism but it isn't.

Before you put it all back together, just check that you have a spring between the diaphragm and its retaining cap. Also that you have a spring at the other end of the diaphragm mechanism inside the top cover that returns the actuating arm.

The spring on the pilot air screw is much chunkier so I am pretty sure its not that one - just make sure you have one in there.

I will keep thinking!

SOLVED! I spent a lot of time trying to figure out where the darn thing came from. I was confident it came from my carb, and could tell it was discolored and worn, so it wasn't an unnecessary part that came with the rebuild kit. It turns out that it came from inside the float needle valve. It's not at all shown in the diagrams--it's INSIDE the "plunger" or float valve needle with the rubber tip that has a spring retaining clip that holds it onto the the float lever. (Hope this description makes sense.) The two parts I had extra are not shown in the diagram, but are inside of the thing that looks like a miniature rocket--the lower line in #17 in the diagram Brian posted above.

I think such a part is normally not seen because it hides inside the float valve needle and doesn't ever come out if you leave the spring retaining clip on the needle/plunger. Mine came out because I had to remove the spring retainer from the float valve needle because the needle was completely stuck as if welded down in the valve seat. Therefore, in order to take off the float, I had to pull the thing into pieces. The rebuild kit had the Float valve needle with the retaining spring clip installed, so I never even saw the two parts I had left over--they weren't visible at all in the new float valve needle because it appears as one piece.

Thanks Brian and Steve for working to help me out. I got the carb back on the bike and it runs like a charm.

Here is a pic in case someone else has the same trouble. I guess the retaining spring I referred to doesn't actually hold the "extra parts" in place; they just don't usually come out.

Wow - well found!

I have never taken one of those apart so hadn't seen the pieces. So what does it do - push against the rubber tip of the float needle?

Good to hear the carb is working well and thanks for feeding back biggrin
