These tyres are only marked "rear >" Obviously if they were marked with a corresponding "front >" logo then it would be easy, but they're not, hence the question.
I have doena Google search, but so far haven't come up with a definite answer.....
Generally, fit the front tyre with the tread pattern facing the opposite way to the rear. Trying to put it simply, the rear tyre is being driven from the hub, and reacts with the ground (tries to slip) in an anticlockwise direction viewed from the left. The front tyre is being "driven" by the ground, and reacts against the hub/braking force, trying to skid clockwise against the direction of travel.
Heidenau k60 tyres have markings front and rear. Quite suprised the Contis don't.
Found this, which doesn't help much but proves you're not alone:
That means that there will only be one way to fit a front tyre and another way to fit a rear tyre.
Only one directional arrow per tyre.

Thanks Martyn. That would appear to be the problem, I bought the tyres some 3 years ago, as a front/rear combination from one of the online dealers, and looking at the fitment guide my front tyre is ,in fact, a rear
The front page of the booklet, however shows a bike with a Conti trail attack2 on the front, and the tread on that is exactly the same as mine, and if I fit mine that way round it will be opposite to the rear direction arrow, so that's what I'll do. Can't very well go back to the seller now. These thing are sent to try us eh ?
