Hey guys, my name is Justin and I live in the state of Maine, USA. I recently picked up a 1999 TTR250 for what I think was a fair deal. It needed some minor stuff (chain and sprockets) but I tackled most of it. It has been used that is for sure but judging from the lack of rust and no serious damage it looks like it was taken well care of all these years. Motor sounds strong. Mechanically it's a solid bike as far as I can tell so I may get a new set of plastics for it (I have already emailed TotallyTTR's about getting some shipped to the U.S. ). The regular maintenance is done (all I have left to do is change the brake fluid) and I have been riding it around the local trails. I have always owned street bikes and this is my first dirtbike, I can't believe the fun I was missing!
I have already learned so much from everyone on this forum so I figured it was time to stop lurking. I hope to learn a lot more about my bike and the sport/hobby in general. Thanks for having me!
I have to say that actually this forum is one of the reasons I ended up buying the bike to begin with. When I saw it advertised in the local classifieds I looked up TTR250 online and It brought me here. I like to do most all of my own work on my bikes and cars so having a site like this with all the good info in one place was a major plus for me.
Thanks Martyn. The TTR is more capable than me for sure! I'm 6' tall and I can't flat foot it so it was a little intimidating the first time on dirt. Oh yeah and I forgot to say that I have already replaced one front brake lever, it's a good thing they're cheap!
Thanks a lot everyone! Steve, I got your email though it took me awhile to find it because it got sent to my spam folder for some reason. I will send you a list but am waiting on a rebuild kit for my carb and once I get that I'll have my carb off and can see what else I'll need for parts like diaphram, o rings or a new rubber intake boot. Figure I'll try to order most of it at once to save on shipping. Bike runs good but the float has stuck on me a couple times causing the carb to leak from the overflow. I've got my auto center punch ready to tackle the float pin (thanks to this forum).
Welcome to the club Justin. I have to say the majority of the upgrades and stuff that I have bought for my TTR have been through totallyttrs.com/. Great quality and over the top customer service and stuff that you can't find anywhere else.
