Having brought another tttr250 unfortunately its time to sell the honda xr400.
The bike is a 1998 model with 16000km on the clock and in good condition which has been used as an introduction to trail riding and will be missed.
I am looking for offers for around £1850 due to the mileage and the maintenance i have undertaken.
I purchased the bike December 2015 from a TRF member who purchased it from another member two years prior to that.
When i purchased the bike it ran very well but burnt the oil slightly with a slight rattle but overall was in great condition.
In the last few months i have purchased and fitted a new cam chain, piston rings and stem seals so now the bike does not smoke or rattle and doew not leak.
Since the purchase I have also...
Replaced many bearings including a the headstock.
Fitted a disc guard
Fitting braided hoses
New rear brake piston
Replaced the rear disc
Replaced the speedo drive ( i think the speedo cable has stopped working now though)
Regular oilchanges
Fitted a spotless exhaust can.
Fitted michelin ultra heavy duty tubes
Fitted motion pro rim locks
Larger footpegs (much more comfortable)
Changed air filters
The bike really will be missed however the replacement would better suit my future trips.
I regularly check the forum and can also be contacted on 07950462616.
What's you opinion comparing XR 400 and TTR? Weight should be pretty much the same. XR does not have starter that it a minus.
But it has more cc, a little bit more power. Is power noticeable on XR?
TTR seems slightly lighter, but just because it's a little lower. Dan never seems to have any problems kick starting it when we're on the trails, usually always first kick and it's away.
It's definetley more grunty than the TTR, accelerates harder and quicker and will pull you through all kinds of mud. Which is all we have here in Northamptonshire!
As malcolm said, the xr definitely feels heavier but half of that is because its a taller bike whuch carrys the engine weight higher.
I havent been out on the ttr enough to make a fair decision but at the moment I prefer the xr for our local lanes. It rips through the boggy sections which the ttr feels slightly under powered effortlessly.
In all honesty malcolm is right in saying that the bike starts first kick down the lanes. However the first time you start it on a cold morning it can on occasion take me even as many as 3/4 kicks but others it will be first time, i dont seem to have perfected my technic, im not far off though!
Any more question feel free to ring or take a look yourself.
