I recently picked up this 97 TTR 250. 5000k on the clock. Very neat condition. Never been registered. So I put all the rego stuff on it. Got a number plate for it very easily. Yay.

Future mods planned when I find out if 'Blue' stuff is compatible as 'white' stuff.

-Racetech or polisport headlight. Don't like the OE headlight, very dated.

-B and B bashplate, numberplate holder and frameguards.

-Exhaust and re jet

- Slimmer indicators, I think aliens can see mine from the moon.

- new bars and barkbusters.

Welcome to the forum!  Very original looking TTR - nice biggrin

If you want to go down the "blue" route then this thread shows how I updated a bit of a wreck of a white TTR into a bluey.

I am sure you would find a good market for your white panels, tank and seat as they look in such good condition.

All the parts you list are interchangeable between white and blue models - one of the very many good points with TTR250s wink

Brian

See I don't mind the indicators. At least people know when I'm turning a corner - unlike modern cars with their clear lenses especially on a sunny day. The thing I hate on the Ttr is the rear indicator brackets - my indicators bounce around like they're having a fit sometimes.  The brackets are too lightweight for an indicator that could be used to club baby fur seals with biggrin

And welcome threshold. Looks to be a tidy beast. I was keen to ditch my blue bikes headlight a while ago but the "square" look has grown on me.

I also like to be seen but kept kicking off the lenses on the standard indicators at the rear so gave up and fitted Motrax Micro Fairing indicators - small but very bright! LED versions are available but haven't seen those working - LEDs are a tad directional.....

I still run the standard indicators at the front as they are big and bright and protected from offs - haven't damaged one yet!

A few pics of my TTR up near roxby downs at a 'bush bar'. There a few bush bars around near roxby. Thankfully I am no longer required to show my L plates. It only took three learners permits. (As I was always too lazy to do the second test haha) If anyone is ever in Roxby with their TTR hit me up :)

Good to see the TTR out in its natural habitat biggrinbiggrin

Can I ask about your headlight - is it an original TTR unit? It appears to have the correct decal matching the rest of the bike wink

That's a nice looking bike, I'd love one the same color to go with my bluey.

I have thought about a wrr a lot but I've decided my next bike will be a ttr, haha.

There is no doubt that the WRR is a lovely bike - until you need to work on it when you will appreciate the simplicity of the lovely TTR - THE all time classic trail bike wink

Out at another bush bar. No, no drinkin, not until now. My housemate decided he wants a ttr now too. Our previous housemate suggested to buy a rm 250 two stroke for his first bike. Yes, I work with some dumb scaffolders. He loved it, he was chasing me about on the ct 110, but it wasn't long until he figured out how to use it and then I was struggling to chase him.20170329_160406.jpg20170329_160348.jpg20170329_153816.jpg

Yeah Brian, I am pretty sure it is original for an AU TTR. Original and hideous. I can sell it if someone is interested. Haha

Could I ask you to post a head on shot of the headlight and I will add it to the appropriate thread. If you ever have the headlight off, a photo of its rear would also be good! Does it have a glass or plastic headlight lens and do you know what size/type of bulb it runs?

Sorry for all the questions!

Brian

PS If anyone thinks its not a TTR OEM part please say!!!!

Would you mind telling me why? I'm interested in what you think, I'm silly in saying I wouldn't get one as I have never ridden one. But can't wait to, as a friend has just bought one and I am looking forward to a quick spin. I like the idea of buying an older TTR like above, but I also like the idea of buying another ttr with 1000-1500klms or less on it, they pop up here (AUS) often enough. Swap the engine with mine while I rebuild the top end of the newy to a 350 ......

Sorry for hijacking your thread slightly.

The TTR is a great bike, seat is ok & the ride quality is pretty good, simple bike to service & not much to go wrong.

I had my TTR for sale on Gumtree, Bikesales & Yamaha world for a few months & without a lie it was the best TTR for sale in Australia but it didn't sell so I kept it.

For those that thought I was being harsh with "I love my TTR but love the WRR more" I'm off to the Flinders Ranges in a few weeks & guess what I'm taking the TTR, it's slightly lower, slightly more ground clearance, no radiator to damage & no fuel injection to fail in the middle of nowhere & the gearing is better suited so it does have some advantages over the WRR.

The WRR is easier to ride fast but the TTR is better at the slower hilly adventure riding !!!

Terry

Hi Brian, it has a glass lens. Im not sure what bulb it runs. Has hi and low beam. The glass says koito, halogen. Motorcycle 110-31675 Japan. Also says 'dot' which im pretty sure means approved for road use in Australia. Sorry some of the other pics came out side ways. Dont know what happened there. I will get some photos of the other side and bulb details when I replace it. I think the thing is hideous. As far as I am aware they are also the same headlights they used on the 'XT's of the same era. XT was a 225? From memory anyway. A bit lower, would be a good farm bike.

Still waiting to get ttr back from mechanic while he is figuring out jets.

Apart from a few little mechanical issues from the previous owners mechanical skill or lack of, it has been a great bike.

It is aesthetically  coming leaps and bounds. New polisport headlight, motax rear indicators, new barrett exhaust, new renthal bars and barkbusters, new 13/48 gearing from totallyttrs.com . Can't wait to see it in person and more importantly, ride it.

And can't wait to slap a long range tank on it either.

Still love my TTR, it's a great bike & does most things pretty bloody good, had a ball on the TTR up in the Flinders, as the photos show we had 3 blue TTR's up there & not a single issue with either of them...pretty lucky to own both a WRR & TTR both from new

I am really happy how much the exhaust deristricted the bike. Goes soooo much better now and weighs 10 less kilos.

Can't wait to get her on the dirt. Next plans for her are; de purpling the bike and putting on 'new' silver rims and a long range acerbis tank. Maybe a b n b tail tidy and bashplate.1501725144598372852397.jpg

Nah Terry, I quit my job at roxby. Except I didn't call. I just stopped turning up. Back in beautiful Adelaide.

That is Saunders gorge, I think it is a 4x4 park . Up Sedan way. Went to go camping at chalks at mt crawford but that was closed for a car rally.

@ katana its a six moons design lunar solo. An ultralight sinhle wall one man hiking tent. As I dont have a gs1200 I figure I may as well keep my weight down. That tent is about 850gms including pole and pegs and groundsheet.

I know where that is, if you continue up the road to Three Chain Rd & around Pine Hut Rd...quite a good loop.....Because of the rally I didn't take the dirt bike out as I ride a lot of the roads they use for the rally...

I took the Thruxton out instead on the twisties

Ok, so it isn't on my bike, but you get the picture.

Found one brand new (opened fittings bag) from gawler motorcyle centre for $275 aud.

Around £162 gbp.

Picked it up north of Adelaide, an hour and a half away. Still in bag. Apparently the bloke was going to fit it to his TTR but it was too much trouble making the brackets. As long as it is all good (like no crossed threads / looks fine and all kit is untouched minus the fitting bags been opened) it was a bargain! (He should have had a look at this forum and bought the zen overland kit!)

I am planning on taking the TTR off of the road this aussie summer coming up and de purpling it. Powdercoat the frame black. New black fork gaiters, black seat cover and some other kit. Also got a leak on the head gasket :(

Bought some nelson rigg (rigg gear) adventure saddlebags for the ttr. They seem to be good quality and hold most of my camping gear ie my sleeping quilt, sleeping pad, pillow, tent, helinox chair, hikerfly for shade and tools.

They were pretty cheap too  $200au delivered and fit the ttr well.

The tank panniers i bought get in the way of my knees a bit, but Ill keep them and hopefully they wont when I get the long range tank on.

Went for a ride with the rear panniers loaded up and they werent in the way at all. So i am stoked at the moment.  Another small step for turning my ttr into an adventure bike and doing some adventure rides.

Looking good!

Just a thought about a possible alternative to the tank panniers. How about a tank bag such as the Wolfman - see here. I have used one for many years and its a great bit of kit!

Headlight and front fender bags are also useful wink
