Hello everybody ..... I recently found a wrecked 1999 TTR at the dump with only 500km or 300 miles!!!!! Started it up and runs like a bike with no KM.... sadly the frame is ****ed!!!! I am looking to find a TTR that has a blown engine, and was wondering what year of bike I could swap and use this engine and trany in?? thanks in advance
Welcome! And congratulations on the find. The engine will fit all years of ttr 250. The later blue models don't use the speedo drive on the front drive sprocket, and the crankcase breather comes out of the rocker cover rather than the back of the crankcase beneath the carb. Other than that, and an extra clutch plate on later models, there aren't any major differences and mounting holes, carb and header positions are all the same.
Take care that it's not been stolen and dumped, it would be heartbreaking to have it confiscated by plod if you've spent loads of time and effort doing it up!
