I'll be there for a month shortly running two trips with my wife, Ange coming out for 2 weeks between the trips.
A few changes from last year, namely made some different pannier racks, salvaged from a TransAlp to get the weight a little lower and further forward, rebuild the forks and added a small home made fly screen.
The seat I made from a KTM 640 ADV gel seat I was given and an old base, simply carved the bottom off and cut to length before restapling, this way I was able to keep the nice, comfy profile. Ange is 6 foot tall and says it's perfect .......in fact so perfect she never complains, well not about the seat anyway!
It's a great bike, normally used as a gentle trail bike then morphs into a brilliant little overlander.
Looks great.
I went to Iceland with a 4x4 truck, and was glad of it through some of the fords I came across! However, I was amused to watch a couple of GS riders refuse to ford the river by Landmannalangar campsite which was practically a dry river bed at only 8 inches deep at the time. You could drop a ttr on it's side in that and not flood it
Have a great trip, hope you get some good clients.
Would love to see a picture of the racks without the bags on.
Sounds like a great trip.
Steve
Here's some pics of the pannier frames I modified.
Whilst the one's from Totally TTRs WILL do the job, in my opinion they're a poor design, rack is far too heavy, pannier weight is sat too far to the rear and too high and it all relies on the small two grab rail mounts either side.
So...........
Use pillion footrest mount
The OEM rack is plenty strong enough, here the forward mount has a threaded stud welded into it which passes through the rack
Same this side but both frames are tucked in as close as possible to keep the width down
Using pillion rest mount on LH side
I faffed around trying to fit all sorts of screens but imo if you go higher it'll cause more turbulence and more importantly as it's my wife's bike, as tall screen cause injure a riders face if thrown forward (because it would be fairly close).
This really works a treat ....suprisingly!!
This extension from another mudguard does a great job of keeping the engine fins cleaner etc.
Side stand too short? Ice hockey puck from ebay.
Finally!!
The steering has been 'flighty' for some time now.
It turns out that using a 644 Army special tyre was the cause.
Today I stuck a part worn Mitas E09 on and it's TRANSFORMED the bike!!
Now it's ready to be shipped to Iceland later this week :)
Great set-up! This is the ULTIMATE TTR in my opinion. Only missing an oil cooler.
Congratulations for a job extremely well done! Trying to make mine exactly like that-
I very much like the tailor-made luggage rack. I need one but don't work metal much...
What tank have you fitted on, any part number by any chance?
Is that a Pirelli MT21 in the rear? What size fits there please?

Hmmm not sure this particular bike needs an oil cooler, although did consider it if only for the extra oil capacity.
Tank is the 22L Acerbis, so go's for ever (I guess you may know an XR400 tank will fit?) :D
MT21 is a 130/90/18 although do consider a 130 Mitas E09 for trips they're great, good price and last really well. I very nearly fitted a new MT21 front today before shipping but changed my mind as it steers so well with the E09.
Yes, I could spend money on a stainless exhaust and header etc etc. but there's no point, we'd rather spend our dosh on being able to do the trips :)
Besides, it spends most of it's life as a lady's trail bike .......... and we all know what that means

Thanks for the info, 22L is 5 Gallons, that's a lot of weight. Not sure I will opt for 22L.
IMS, Clarke, Acerbis, 5.8G or 3.8G. I do get confused reading about fitting those tanks.
130/90/18 seems to be the very maximum to be fitted in the rear without ripping the tongue off.
The TTR250 makes up for a great learning bike, my wife is getting at it but still finds it too big.
Once again 'The Blue One' was faultless although having ridden it a just a short distance myself I'm right in the middle of a homemade steering damper mount.
Will post you lot a thread on how to do it once it's finished .... and hopefully works!
