15:44 gears for street use

Was reading a thread on gearing and Im trying to get the most out of the TTR without stressing the motor out too much as I ride mostly street with a good amount of highway use.I am running 14:52 now and it keeps up but in the high rpm range.

Anybody have any experience with 15:44

I would try 14/44 which is the standard gearing for the TTR.

You may find 15/44 abit to of a high gearing. Head wind on a slight incline may force you to drop to fith gear on the highway. 14/44 is nearly perfect for me and my weight.

I dont get on with 14/44 6th gear is useless for me, im only 12 stone to, ive a 13 to fit and see if 13/44 is any better

On my TTR I have 13/48 and I find I can do 63mph Max before it starts sounding like it is ringing the fook out of it. It will carry on to 70mph though.

Perhaps try 14/47 or 13/46 somewhere inbetween what you have now and standard sizes?

My 2004 Blue TT-R250sc (US California? model) came with 13/52 from Mama-Yamaha. I just noticed that from a recent order I made from you Brian I accidentally ordered 14/52 instead...whoops.

May be looing into going back to stock gearing then, thanks for the input guys

If you are heavy or carrying gear you can try 14/46, it will save having to change down from 6th on slight uphills, on a fast run recently 100-120kph I found that on steep uphills it needed just that little bit lower gearing, was riding with a WR250, almost the same weight and power as the TTR and he was able to hold 6th where I couldn't

Next time I need sprockets I think I will go for 15/49, it's a fraction higher ratio than 14/46 and will give less wear on the C/Shaft sprocket

Hope that helps and doesn't add to the confusion quotient

When I had my bike on the road I went to 14/47 from the standard 14/44..
the bike struggles a bit with the 14/44 gearing on any thing but flat roads...
