I have a 1999 US TTR250, I only have electric start but want to also be able to kick start it. I can`t for my life find ANY parts here in the USA , or VERY hard to find. where else can I try to find what I need?

The US TTR250 models were sold as pure offroad bikes and are missing many of the road parts that we find, for example, on UK TTRs such as kickstart, toolbox, indicators speedo, etc.

It is therefore going to be hard to find a kickstart kit from a TTR being broken for spares in the US - sorry cry

I haven't had a kickstart kit in stock here at Totally TTRs for several years and can't recall any being advertised.

Your best bet will be Australia's version of Craigslist as there seem to be quite a few ads for TTR parts on it.

Good luck in the hunt!

Brian

Hey I'm new to bikes. I just bought a 99 yamaha ttr 250 it doesn't have the kick start. The guy I bought it pried the plug thinking you could just add the kick start lever and now it is leaking oil. For the life of me I can't find a new plug. If any one knows where I might find one I would appreciate the help . Thanks in advance.

Hi

I live in South Africa and am also wishing to convert my electric TTR250 to a kickstart.

I have replaced the Sprague starter clutch twice and the last one  last only 1 month. Now the conrod is badly worn......

Will only the TTR250 assembly fit???.  I have tried the XT350 but the kick starter spline in 20mm instead of 17mm and the  rear kick starter gear is 69mm instead of 60mm

Does anyone know who has a starter assembly for sale????.

Please advise as my bike has not been standing for some time.

Thanks

Hi Markvan

Thanks for the reply. As indicated I live in Cape Town , South Africa. Can find nothing locally including old TTR's

I have tried searching various websites and shops but to date have only seen your posting.

I have not been able to see a kit so I don't know the exact sizes, however I would need

- A completed starter assembly - 60mm gear with a 17mm spline shafts, depth +- 112mm - (Number of gear??? maybe 30)

- An idler gear - 66mm diameter, hole to be either 17 or 22mm (I have a bush) (Number of matching gears??? maybe 27)

- Kick starter lever - 17mm spline

Please advise  what you have.

(Thanks and may South Africa beat Aus at the cricket.)

Hi Markvan

The above photo are exactly the part I need.

My electric Sprague clutch has broken and replaced 3 times and  now the conrod is worn. Hence I want to convert to a manual kick start. Much more reliable.

If you know anyone with a kit available, please  contact. Thanks again

I have sent a PM, I have one. Have you checked the boss on gear 3 that the sprag spins? It sounds like that is causing the sprag to fail I think. Out of interest have you used an aftermarket sprag or genuine one?
