I have a 96 ttr and it blows alot of white smoke. Im pretty sure it needs new piston rings but i would like to make sure first.
Also I think there is a problem with my clutch because when I go into third gear or above while wrapping on the throttle the engine starts reving but I dont build up any speed till it stops slipping it seems and the power kicks in again. its like the clutch lever is half pulled in or something but i have checked that its lined up with the mark on the motor and it seems in line. I havent been able to find any info online about it so please help.
I have found this piston and rings set but im not sure about its quality/sizing.
I agree with Mal - steer clear! Try and buy genuine Yamaha, Wossner or Wiseco - all tried and tested with good pedigrees
If the clutch pointer is in the right position and you have some free play on the cable then you are going to need new clutch plates to stop the clutch slipping.
You can see the Totally TTR prices here but you can probably do better buying locally. Just put "TTR250 piston" into eBay or Google and see what you get
