Getting the purple colour of the rims

As i've mentioned before, i've got a 1998 TTR250. I want to remove the purple colour off the rims. I guess it's possible right? What would be the best way to do it? Do you have any idea what kind of pealing chemical i should use and if i should do it after removing the tyres?

That would be too expensive for my budget i believe. Wouldn't it cost around 100 euros?

What about the chemical solvent solution that i mentioned? Does anyone know anything about it? I'm googling about it but can't find anything.

Is the aluminium rim anodized blue?  confuse

If so then this may be a solution, but I don't know if it would be cheaper than blasting.

I am 99% sure that it is very good quality anodising.

 Just answering Martyn's question. If its anodised then his links suggest ways of removing it. Never tried any of them myself. I had some very scratched up purple rims and got them shot blasted and powder coated instead. As you say, expensive way of doing it.....

Removing the purple from the rims question

Does anyone happen to know if the purple / blue colour can be removed from the wheel rims of the OE model ?

How can it be done and what would it leave underneath ?

Would it leave a nice clear alloy colour ?

Or would it be easier to try and find a couple of secondhand wheels from a Y2K model ?

Any other alternative approaches welcome.

I was told that a very strong oven cleaner (Cillit Bang?) will remove anodising but please don't take that for gospel!

Best to Google "how to remove anodising from aluminium" and have a look at some of the sites listed. Very interesting!

You could always have your wheels blasted and powder coated silver?

 Thanks for the reply Brian,

Yes Google does find some very interesting methods and for every recommended idea there is often a not recommended response.

I think if I ever decide to do something about them I'll find a professional place to do it for me.

I did have a 1993 TTR back in the distant past with gold rims which I rather liked but the purple / blue do not do it for me at all I'm afraid.
