Dont know any history on this TTR , picked it up for the wheels and other items. Engine oil is full , but that could have been filled after the explosion. Barrels been honed and looks ok but im no mechanic. Any ideas what may have happend.
Tweed heads Australia.
Motor was stripped and sat in a workshop for 10 years i was told
This is how i found the air filter. Maybe alot of the fine red auzzy dust went through the engine. Didnt get a carby as yet with the bike
It is possible that the sand/dust accumulated on the parts whilst they were in storage.
The piston damage was almost certainly caused by an engine seizure and the usual cause of that is lack of oil.
The cam gear looks remarkably undamaged!

I thought with the condiction of the cam gear it was a lean mixture
low/no oil pressure usaly the cam is the first to go..
but who knows...

You could be right Pete but I would have thought pre-ignition from a lean mixture would have caused more damage to the head and top of the piston
