To my dismay I have just found out that my bike was classed as an insurance category D total loss in March '09.
I entered details into Autotrader to sell the bike and found out this information. I never done a check before I bought it and have now done so with HPIcheck. Here is an excerpt:

Description
YAMAHA TT250 R
Date
02/Mar/2009
Category
D - Vehicle damaged but repairable - the insurer decided not to repair
* There is no other information regarding the damage. Whatever happened there is now no problem at all following Brian's rebuild. Brian rebuilt the bike after buying it from a company who must have bought it from the insurers. Of course they failed to disclose its history to Brian. *
Category D - Repairable salvage. Minimal damage, probably not structural, but insurer does not want to repair, even though it might be economic to do so. Often stolen and recovered after claim has been paid. Or for unusual models or grey imports where the difficulty of obtaining new parts hinders a quick repair. Does not need VIC inspection to return to road. Recorded with HPI, AA, and the like.
I've had this TTR for about a year and a half. It was a restoration project carried out by TTRfan who runs this website and is, it can be said, a man that knows his TTR's. The build is documented on page 2 of Projects and Restorations, at the foot of the page titled ' Another restoration started!'. No link, I'm clueless with all that.
The only things I've changed are fitting an original Yamaha headlight with 60w/55w bulb, far better than the aftermarket ones as you can actually see where you're going at night. I commute to and from work in the early hours and on pitch black country roads its worked a treat. The bike now has Avon Distanzia road tires fitted. Loads of tread. I've never taken it off-road. It is however a ten year old bike and has the hallmarks of off-road use on the wheels. The frame is in perfect condition and a testament to the workmanship carried out. Not a bit of paint has come off and is showroom quality. Symtec heated grips now fitted.
The TTR runs great and returns on average 55 mpg. It always turns heads wherever I go and I've thought long and hard before making the decision to sell. The decal on the left of the tank could do with adjustment. It's complete and in good condition it just needs to be stuck down again. I managed to melt the right hand side exhaust panel by leaving the choke on too long one morning. It could possibly push back out with some heat but is purely cosmetic.
The bike is now coming up for 7000 miles. It had new clocks fitted during the restoration. I'm currently using the bike to commute so the mileage will rise.
MOT due November.

This happens a lot. You just do not know unless you do a hpi check, cat d do not require the vic check, so the bike just gets the cosmetic damage repaired and it gets resold. Cat d is nothing though, its only a stigma it holds.

That's right. I 'always' check. Except on this occasion of course!
It's a shame as it puts people off a good straight bike.
This is now up for auction on eBay. It has heated grips in preparation for winter!
I don't suppose anyone could help with linking it?
I've put a reserve on the bike and if it goes at that figure someone's got a hell of a deal.
