Does anyone carry a chain splitter and a spare link out on the trail or is it really not necessary?

Yes i do have a splitter and 3 spare split links in my kit plus a good file and 6 inch's of spare chain who say's it going to go at the split link only. but did not help last time the chain went as i was on my 2 mile run from work to home an did not have my tool kit with me.ttr250.activeboard.com/t58840160/lost-drive/
so now the kit is with the bike at all times and i swap the split link out about every 1000 miles for a new one and pop the old one in the kit as a spare. the chain fix kit comes out more on the trail for people Im with more than myself i have only had 5-6 fail in 35 years of riding lot's an lot's of miles coverd over them years

Im carrying the little joiner press and a spare. Mine came off the other week on the road.  i couldnt beleive it happened.  I was shocked. Its like maybe someone removed the saftey clip. it was all orginal chain and sprockets with 15,000km. 95 percent road work. Chain was only slightly lose. If i had a joiner link and press that day it would have saved alot of bother.

It is a wise move carrying it hey, I'm going to start carrying my splitter and some links I think, its not too heavy for the rucksack. I hear of chains breaking fairly often.
