The bike was standing for 18-months with fuel in, carb not drained. It would crank over but not run. So far I have done the following..
- Emptied old fuel in tank, filled up with a couple of litres of new fuel
- Carb removed. Took apart from the float side only. Cleaned jets, diaphragm, bowl and float, and mix screw. The pilot jet was completely blocked. Managed to unblock with a piece of wire and cleaned out. New bowl gasket installed.
- Recharged battery fully.
- New iridium spark plug installed and tested good.
- Mix screw set to 2.5 turns out.
Now the bike starts with full choke and a spray of easy start. But dies immediately as the throttle is slightly opened, or dies after 10 secs anyway after coughing and spluttering.
What should be my next step? Thanks.

Thanks Martyn. I kinda knew the carb would be coming back off. Perhaps the wire passing through the pilot jet wasn't sufficient? Any recommendations on what I can use to clean it out a bit better?

Soak in strong solvent for good long while, then blow through with compressed air, plus use your piece of wire again. Put some silkolene pro fst fuel system treatment in the first tankful too if you like.

Thanks Pete, I assume you mean just soak the jets and not the whole carb? I friend of mine also suggested the fuel treatment, so I think I will do that as well.

OK, so I see that just the wire passing the pilot jet wasn't enough, it was blocked again. So this time I use a little tiny micro drill bit, which did the trick nicely. And cleaned the whole carb again. I have progress, in that the bike now starts on full choke. I let it run for a while, but even then closing the choke would result in the engine to die every time.
So I took it for a ride around the block. It just runs horrid. Using the throttle will cause it to die, its jerky, lumpy, then suddenly the revs will go up for now reason. Its basicaslly all over the place

It's as good as I can get it. It is fidly getting it to sit right. It is all in one piece, no splits or anything. But the only thing is the outlet manifold pipe clip is bent. I did noticed this and straightenhed it, but when screwing back up it bent again. But it doesn't seem to have unseated the pipe, and it seems airtight. What do you think?
Oh and Brian, aren't you supposed to be on holiday!
