A rack?...Did you not get on with mudguard bags then? I find a rucksack is pretty essential really to wack a tube/lever/pump/refreshments in. A small 12-15 litre rucksack I think is relatively unobtrusive. And it doesn't get left on the bike so it can't get nicked outside tesco.

I've just put a little 2ltr bag on the back muddy, don't want anything too big like a rack. Knew a lad come a cropper landing on his rucksack once and avoided them ever since. I didn't get the tool box and they seem mega rare, something to go where that did would be cool.

I have a back protector so I would of thought that would stop anything in the rucksack giving me a kidney punch! Um you could get a bag for the front muddy too, they have four clips that just hook to the edge of the plastic. Headlight surround bag is an option too. You might be able to adapt a xt225 serow toolbox to go on or have a metal one with screw cap made up...the latter option would be waterproof...
