What do you use to lube a dryed out chain on the trail?? Riding through puddles can dry out a chain pretty quickly, so can dust.
I use one of these refilled with either chainsaw oil or gear oil to bring the price down, the bottle is small(120ml)not too bulky for the rucksack, and has a handy applicator on top. Usually re dose with proper motocross lube when home.
Do you use wd40 on the chain? Because after time wd40 will eat into the o-rings from the inside out, plus the fact it dissolves the lube out and keeps the o-rings permanantly swelled.
+1 Pete on the WD-40, IMO.
I don't ride far enough to re-lube the chain but if I did I would probably substitute the chainsaw/gear oil with old motor oil since I usually change it after 6 - 8 hours of riding and it is still pretty slickery. Let the metal and crud settle and suck some off the top after an oil change to save even more $$$

I usually use whatever is around but I have about 20ltr of home made Biodiesel, may give that a try, biodiesel is OK on Nitrile O-Rings
