I'm Andy from the IOM. Last had a trail bike in 2002 I think... Yeah .. Hehe long time ago... I saw a TTR for sale locally so I have been silently perusing this forum for last week in preparation for a maybe purchase... Long story short, today I bought a TTR250RR in blue with 3400 miles on the clock for a princely sum of a grand.
I think the carb needs attention tho... as you can imagine it has been stood for long periods of its life and the previous owner tried his best to look after it but admitted there has been some fiddling in the carb. Currently it seems to overflow and run a bit lumpy so first port of call is carb o rings, diaphragm etc and cleaning.
secondly, I don't know if it's normal on these bikes but I can hear the timing chain running round from the side of the bike.. No rattling, just seems to be slightly loud operation compared to other bikes I have owned.
so all... Id love some advice on these points.. I believe a gentleman called Brian can supply parts to us lucky owners so if anyone could point him in my direction I'd love to get on, get fixed, and get riding 😃
thanks and and hi again...

Gummed/leaking/blocked carbs seem to be a common trouble with these bikes and can generally be sorted by a thorough dismantle, clean and rebuild.
There is plenty of information on the boards - I'd advise using the Search button on the top line - try putting "carb" in for a start and see what happens.
First off, it is highly unlikely that the cam chain & sprockets will be worn at such a low mileage. As the TTR has been stood up for a while, it would be worth taking off the cam cover and check that the chain is tight as there is a remote possibility that the tensioner is stuck. If it is then that's an easy fix by just screwing it in and out making sure it is moving freely.
We don't sell a carb "kit" as such because the genuine Yamaha parts are expensive and there is no point in buying parts that aren't needed. The minimum you will need for a strip down, clean and re-assembly is a float bowl gasket (as they tend to flatten with age) and the two small O rings beside the diaphragm.
All our carb parts are listed here - it is not often we get asked for anything not catalogued. Everything listed is in stock and ready to go!
