I was contacted by an old riding buddy on Monday who had Wednesday off and was looking to get out on his bike after a long lay off.
A quick email around some likely suspects and we had a band of 5 ready to roll: Tim and Mark G. (Goalkeeper on the forum) on TTR250s, Mark F. on DRZ400, Rik on KTM 240 and me on my TTR325.
I had planned a 9.30am start but a metallic scraping sound from the rear end of Tim's TTR meant a rapid brake pad replacement but everyone was happy chatting so no panic.
The weather was perfect for trail riding being cloudy (so less chance of overheating and glare on the GPS screen) and having had recent rain to settle any dust on the lanes.
Ready to go! L to R - me, Mark F., Rik, Tim and Mark G.
We covered just under 80 miles in 6 and a half hours but that's with a half-hour morning coffee/pasty stop and a 40 minute lunch break included. We rode 63 lanes which I reckon is pretty good.
Rainbow Swarm? Nice to have 3 TTRs in the group but the splash of colour was added by the DRZ and KTM.
Two Pasties Run? A delicious steak pasty at 11.30am at Colaton Raleigh and a steak & Stilton pasty for lunch from Woozie's Deli in Beer - proper job
Sorry not to have more photos but it seems I was the only one with a camera and its difficult to do much when leading
I did manage to hold the swarm back to allow me to video them going through the ford at Ratshole Gate. I noticed one wobble but, thankfully, everyone stayed sunny side up so no drowned bikes this time.
Earlier on in the day, Rik decided to test out a new exit from the river on one of the lanes and the first attempt ended in tears.
But the second try was more successful
Great day out - should do it more often and perhaps then I would be more bike fit and not ache so much
