Hi All, Does anybody have an after market kit to upgrade the front brakes to a larger diameter front disk?
I love my TTR, but the brakes are just not real good compared with a WR. In my opinion, they are just a bit weak.
The front brakes of the TTR 2001 model have been a bit of a nuisance from day one.
I cannot seem to find any after market models that allow the upgrade to a larger disk, only variations of the same kind of disk.
I have tried various pads, and the longest lasting are the Brass Cindered pads but ... they don't seem to brake all that well. If you use a standard pad out in the dirt tracks, that is gone in no time.
I'm going to try a MOR compound, as that is meant to be a bit more of a grippy pad, and I am also putting on a breaded line to improve it. I still feel that these are only minor things that I'm doing compared with, what a larger disk diameter easily would do.
I understand what you are saying about the TTR brakes but have to say that, for trail riding, they are ideal. Nice and progressive and less chance of losing the front than if they were really sharp
That said, I have had occasions on tarmac where I have had to grab a handful and it is easy to leave instant rubber on the road! That is with sintered pads.
A braided front hose will certainly help matters for you but I don't know of any simple upgrades.
