Just submitted my entry for the Cambrian Rally in about a months time. Just enough time for a bit of practice and a good service on the bike. What have I let myself in for!!
Might need to gear it up for those fire roads Simon
That's the plan for the spare wheel - smaller sprocket (to gear up and give a little more clearance with the same chain) and a C02. Thinking of dropping from 14/52 to 14/50, that should give me an additional half a link of clearance.
Will be taking the bike out this weekend for a blast somewhere local, test out the C02 and the 14/48 gearing properly.
Went for a little spin on the road the other day and it certainly has longer legs than before (running 14/52 previously).
I've also removed the risers as I want a more agressive riding position - might take its toll on me, but it should help with the front end traction on the looser stuff at speed.
Hoping for some dryer weather, otherwise the Strada Florida might be a bit interesting!
Well what a thoroughly excellent weekend. The ttr did really well with my only mechanical problem being the throttle grip slipping on the throttle tube half way through the second special stage of day 2.
The longer gearing was certainly needed with some of the forrestry tracks needing to be taken flat out in top, and there was no shortage of low end for the gloopy stuff.
Strata Florida was up and over the wheels in some places, but pleased to say that I didn't drown the bike and got through fine.
Professional pic taken part way round lap 1 day 1 when everything was clean!
Once the results are published, I'll post back on how low down I came!

Good to hear you enjoyed the event and the TTR looked after you!
I use hair spray to put on my grips and haven't experienced any slippage so it must leave some residue after drying. I don't like wiring grips but maybe that's what you need to do...
Day 2
S1: 7m 56s (incl 1 drop from pushing too hard)
S2: 8m 16s (incl 1 drop and a slipping throttle grip)
Fastest rider on the event did the stages in less than 5 mins on a 500cc Rally KTM.
Fastest rider in the "Trail" class (on a CCM GP450 Adventure) - the class I was racing in, was around 5m 30s for each stage.
Pleased with the results - not particularly fast, but faster than a lot of people. In the standings what didn't help was that I chose to only do one sighting and one timed lap, rather than 2 which was an option for Novices and below. Had I completed more laps, I would have scored higher.
Can't wait until next year - but I don't think I'll be doing it on the TTR again....
