TTR in Timor Leste
Permalink

Hello, I just joined this Forum after browsing it for a few days, lots of good information. I've recently moved to Timor and have been shopping for a dirt bike since I arrived. I came across (what I now know is a) 1993 OE. I'd love to know its history as it is in surprisingly good condition and appears to have under 13 k kilos. Certainly needs a full service and some love and care but basically runs well and strong, no odd noises. The suspension suspends but I'll need to take alook at the linkages and fork oil. God help if it needs parts as shipping to here is expensive and time consuming.

I'd never even heard of these before but its grown on me in the 30 or 40 ks I've ridden, and what a cool retro look!

i'm sure I ll learn a lot here and hope I can contribute something in return.

all the best

ted

Welcome to the TTR Forum Ted.

Looks to be a serviceable OE that you've acquired.

I'm sure you will discover the joys (and occasional frustrations) of fettling and running the machine. wink

Welcome to the forum Ted

Although the color is not my favorite, I do love the look of the old bikes, kinda special to have one of the very first models as well.

Hope you enjoy the forum and if you have questions- ask!

Thanks for the warm welcome gents.

This country is full of small (around 150 cc is the norm) mostly Indonesian made motos and they live hard lives, so I am very happy to have found the TTR. Although it is a bit sad that such a useful bike has so few miles on it, sad for the bike but not for me. This situation will change.

pics of the bike exploring Timor will come As the exploration happens.

i have looked in search and in the FAQs but don't see a manual for the early models.  Will the manual for the Blue bikes work enough for me to tidy this one up?

Regards

Ted

Yes, most things are the same, there are only a few differences but ask if you are unsure if it's the same.

You can download the older manual from the Yamaha site HERE, although not quite as comprehensive as one would like.

Hi Ted. Nice sharp photos of your TTR. It looks as if the rear tyre is flat or has low pressure.

Does look like it in the photo.  I think it's because the tyre is worn in the center but not on the edge tread. I got a new set of tires with the bike ready to go on.

 No problems Ted.

I don't think that tyre looked flat at all, this is what a flat tyre on a TTR looks like... biggrin

So after seeing that photo, of course I got a flat. Just outside Dili front tyre suddenly not there. Turned out the valve stem had ripped out of the tube. Previous owner must have run often with low pressure. Couldn't fix it so had to fix the tyre to the rim with 8 or 10 zip ties - a long slow ride home sitting on the back of the seat at 15ks an hour. Being an optimist I was just happy it wasn't the rear.
