XT 125X - still a Yamaha

Hope this is in the right section!

Hi All,

Am thinking about getting a bike for my wife as she has expressed an interest - she has no experience on a motorbike (well not on the front anyway). There's a nice 2005 XT125X with 17 inch wheels in the correct colour (blue) for sale locally, and I can't be bothered exporting another one to France, anyone any feedback on these bikes, ease of maintenance, workshop manual availability etc.etc. and of course whether they are any good, robust and reliable. Can't see her doing anything more than forest roads on it and I suppose if she wants to try proper off road she can borrow my spare TTR250.

Thanks

Dave

Feedback on a TTR site, okay you asked for it-

Handlebars-  Too small, have a tendency to want to knock your knees and make you want to do ''the hippy hippy shake''.  biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Engine- Gutless, couldn't pull the skin off a rice custard. smile

Just joking, maybe someone helpful will be along soon. wink

Hi Dave

Never had one myself but my stepson had an XT125R (21" and 18" wheeled version) and it was a very reliable and solid bike. He used it for his daily commute to work but he also did quite a bit of trail riding on it and it was surprisingly capable despite the road tyres.

Honestly, it is probably a good bike, I am just playing. Hope nobody takes offense to it.

Smile and be happy, it costs nothing (unlike my bike(s))!

Thanks Brian,
Will have a look at it next week - sounds ideal and there's no rice puddings in France.
Both TTR's going well but planning more carb work on the older one in September so will get my shopping list ready nearer the time (so I don't loose all the bits again!)
Cheers say Hi to Trish,
Dave
