does anyone know why the older models and newer models have a different clutch?? and can you interchange them I.e. put an old style clutch into a newer engine ??  or was the smaller clutch just for the raid ??

No idea as to why they changed from the 6-plate clutch on the older engines to a 7-plate clutch confuse

However, I do know that the clutches are interchangeable. BUT if you fit a 7-plate clutch upgrade then you will need the later deeper clutch cover.

ok thanks brian
I was actually going the other way 7 plate down to 6 as this will further lighten the bike and reduce the weight that the engine has to turn (al be it slightly) thus giving slightly more erm poke (for want of a better word)

Keep in mind that the clutch baskets are a different length also so you need the 6-plate clutch basket if fitting 6-plates and vice versa.

Bear in mind that it will not make a significant difference to the weight, only very minimal.

I have the full 6 plate clutch ready to fit so that's not a problem and yea it is only minimal but all the mods on the bike are only minimal but added together a few ounces here and there do make a difference
