I don't think there would be 20mm wear on a tyre, Ian. confuse

I think a new MT43 tread depth is more like 12mm when new.

Don't forget the whole tyre's inside DIAMETER is 18 inches and the wheel axle is in the MIDDLE so a new tyre would only be, say, max. 12mm higher than a worn out tyre.

Perhaps the only practical way for you to set the rear any lower would be a smaller diameter wheel. confuse

Take a look at some tyres you see on the trails, they may be a smidgen lowere profile than a Pirelli MT, but not by a lot. hmm

Hi every one, I need a big favour I need a trail/road tyre that has got a low profile the best way of finding this is to get you lot of lovey people to measure your rear tyre from the top of the rim to the top of the tyre in mm and let me know, It is very complicated for instance a 90x90-21 is 90mm wide 81mm high with a 21"rim and a 90x80x21" is 90mm wide 88mm high 21" rim and a 4.00-18 can be any height and it does not make any sense so you can see the pickle I am in, Its a rear tyre I need the information on a 18" rim, I look forward to hearing from all you lovely people with sizes and makes of tyres, best regards Ian.

...thinking outside the box a tad, I wonder if you could shave some of the seat foam then re-cover. A bit hard on the tail bone, but if you already have a 3" lowering kit and can't find a suitable tire, it might help a little. I could try to measure mine and add, but it is OFF-ROAD only and sure it's very tall so don't think that would be any help.

wow! they are very smart I don't think I could afford them, hay you might laugh I have just spent £50 getting extra thick soles put on my motorcycle boots and I still cant touch the ground.

I know what its like to be short. Im 5 foot nothing. In my 20s i could cart wheel myself on a bike. Now in my 50s its become alot more difficult. I went for the lowering seat option which gave me 2 Inches drop. (i will post a pic ). With a 17 inch wheel you may have to respoke your original hub and buy new spokes and rim. Even road ridding for me in traffic stop starting at red lights became a timing issue to get my balance ready with only one foot tip toe on the ground. Dirt riding was a lot harder with all the uneven ground.

Hi Markvan, I think I am a very short shorty has you can see I have all ready cut the seat, 2" lowering link, Put thick soles on my boots and I am on tiptoe and it is very hard in traffic, I have had lots of big bikes in the past but I was younger then, Now I am 64 a bit like an old fart, At the moment apart from the ttr I have a 900 triumph America and it handles like a baby, I think I might have to go with the 17" rim, Thanks for your input may we both wake up in the morning 6ft 7" that would be good, I have always said if I was reincarnated I would come back 6ft 7" tall but knowing my luck I would be a woman.

I have just had an email asking about seat height on the TTR. What did you get yours down to with your existing modifications please?

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what's your inside leg measurement? This chap is 28"

Hi Brian, the seat height is down to 796mm or 31 3/8" that is the bike up right not sitting on it, my inside leg is 28 1/2 " , I had a serow what was about the same height and I could get all of my toe on the ground but the seat and the frame is a lot slimmer than the ttr, hope this helps, the sag is set at 3 1/2" so it can come down to 4 1/4" that might make a bit more, Ill let you know, regards Ian.

Hi, a bit more news on seat height, the sag on the bike I thought was 3 2/1" was only 2 2/1" so I took it down to 104mm or 4 1/8"and the seat height is now 777mm or30 9/16" and that will do for me, I took it out for a thrash on tarmac lanes and it was great has long has I don't go up on the height of new tyres it will be fine.

Hi, just one more thing I need from all you lovely people, does any one run a ( continental tkc 80 ) or a (Bridgestone tw24) or a ( mitas eto1) on the back wheel I need the height in mm top of the rim to the top of the tyre and the condition ( very worn ) ( half worn ) (like new) my very best regards Ian.

Hi, just to let you know I fitted a continental TKC80 120/90-18 and I found out that all the imperil sizes that are 4-00- 18 are 4" wide and 4" tall and the metric sizes are not so tall 75mm to 90mm had to fit a new bearing on the disk side I have not tried it yet at least the bike is not taller with the new tyre.
