I have just installed the petrol tap/ petc0ck rebuild kit to find that the tap is now incredibly difficult to turn. I can just about move it with my fingers and it's easier with pliers.
Should I have used some sort of grease on the new rubber seal I installed? Or will it get a bit easier with use?
Thanks Steve. I'll take a look and see if the grease makes any difference. I had heard about not turning the tap off and might do that once I'm sure it's fixed.
Sounds to me like you installed the O-ring wrong. It would not go hard or dry in that time. It is easy to do, happened to me the first time I tried and cut the O-ring.
I like to use rubber grease on all O-rings and rubber components and even my plastics if they start to fade, try it, for $8.00 (roughly) you can't go wrong!

I left the tap for about a week and when I returned to fix it, it was fine. I hadn't done anything but for some reason it now turns with minimal resistance, just like the old one.
