Hi, I have just sold my eldest sons DR350 (he is 18) and my youngests Stomp pit bike (he is 15) with a view of getting them something collective that can both use - my eldest for green laning with me (the DR350 was too big for his age / licence restriction) and for them both to ride our local enduro / motocross track (Ashdown) - I am thinking a TTR250 may fit this bill nicely, but what are your thoughts ? Both have been riding for 4 years, our youngest on a 110cc 4 stroke Stomp and a 100cc 2 stroke Yamaha, eldest obviously on a bigger / heavier bike so not so worried about him ! As owners what do you think ? Many Tahnks in advance
Eldest is a strapping monster of a lad - used to swing his DR around like a toy - youngest is slighter - and shorter - I was kind of thinking lowering link and spanners on / spanners off...
I believe the standard ride height is around 850mm, what does a lowering link take off this ? Might possibly have to consider getting a spare seat - but would rather do this than have 2 more bikes to look after.
I do need to get to see one and have them sit on it - but you know what its like - I sold their bikes (bad father) - so before I get them too excited I need to do some homework...)
Should I have too much trouble finding a good one for around £1400 ? - I don't mind looking / travelling / negotiating etc !
A standard lowering link takes off about 2 inches and you can take foam out of the seat but atleast to me this doesnt make sense as if your legs are short (like mine !) you can touch the ground when sitting on the seat but will still have trouble swinging your leg over the rear of the bike when getting on and off
Shouldnt have any trouble finding one for that sort of money and i use mine for some serious offroading and hope to do some enduros soon and the bike suits it perfectly
Good point on the seat mod - I hadn't quite thought of that. I will have to start looking for one then - I rather like the look of one advertised on here so will go and see wher that one is located. Thanks for your advice, I am sure I will be back asking more questions.
My 14 year old is about 5'10" average inseam and can handle the 250 no problem, can't get more than both toes on the ground at the same time but neither can I. Good bike for a bigger kid unless he wants to race or ride dunes. I have a TTR125 which is a great bike for a smaller kid or anyone learning to ride. Harder to kill yourself on the TTR than on the race bikes, so I'm a fan. I don't really see the point of lowering if you're only riding off road.
To confess: just after I dissed the lowering kit for dirt riding ... I dumped it yesterday in a spot where 2" lower could have preserved my dignity. But I'm still skeptical about lowering, I like the height.
