Do I need a new swingarm?

I fitted a 2" lowering link yesterday that I had from Brian. Really easy to do, and great instructions. However, I hit a snag.

The bearing sleeve/long bolt that lives behind the rubber bungs in the swingarm has a 17mm bolt in the RH and and a flat on the LH "head" end which butts against a flat on the swingarm to stop it turning whilst tightening the aforementioned 17mm bolt.

Well, on initial dismantling the aluminium flat on my swingarm had a serious dent in it where the "head" part of the bolt had tried to rotate - presumably due to some previous over-tightening. I realised I would have to be careful on reassembly, but predictably just as my torque spanner clicked to indicate 43lbft the aluminium gave way and the bolt rotated all the way around.

My question then to those who know is do I have to replace my swingarm to fix this properly? Can just this flat piece of ali be replaced somehow? I'm happy that the bolt is tightened to the correct torque but will the fact the bolt could rotate mean that it will loosen if I don't do something about it in the short term?

Help! Giles

shouldnt be a huge problem and if the link that the bolt goes through is greased i cant see the bolt turning and slackening the bolt

If you are worried about it turning maybe you could put a weld on the head of the bolt so it catches the alloy flat on the swingarm

Thanks Chris. That's what I would probably do in the long run, but needed some reassurance!
