I had to get a stand for the TTR as my paddock stand wasn't that handy for it. I bought a kick stand from ghost Mc's for £28. I knew it wouldn't fit underneath so I made a couple of pads to go under the wheels from ply and 2x1. It works a treat even with my shot back. All in all a good, well made piece of kit.

Yep - nice one! My "damped" lift doesn't get the wheels off the ground if I lower the lifting plate to go underneath the TTR so I end up struggling to persuade the TTR upwards enough to go on my stand disbelief

Might have a go at that and save my back biggrin

That's a serious piece of kit Petenz. When on the stand the front tyre rests on the pad that I made , to lift it off you just push down on the seat a little and kick the pad away. Next job is stripping the rear caliper as it is dragging a bit

The usual cause of dragging is that one or both of the caliper slide pins are seized, especially if the rubber seals have been damaged or are perished.  If that is the case then its worth considering replacing the lot - kits are available - see here.

That's interesting. I was looking at getting that very stand. It was the cheapest one I could find on-line. What do you mean it doesn't fit underneath? Won't the stand lower enough, or is the bike too tall to lift?

The bike has about 290mm groung clearance the stand is about 310 high at the lowest level. It lifts the wheels about 50mm off the ground at most.

Roll it onto two bits of wood then slide the stand under, that's what I do.

I prefer to use the type of stand with a damper as in the pic. Still have an issue with getting it under the TTR but there is a technique wink

Sorry to hijack this thread: Are there any other decent priced stands people use for their ttr here? £28 is a great price but just wondered if anyone knows of any others that perhaps lift a bit higher?

To get the TTR up to a decent height to work on , I use a scissor lift in the workshop - a bit like the one in the pic below.

They go low enough to easily wheel the TTR over.

It seems very stable at this height but I tend to have the bike much lower and work from my wheely stool biggrin

That is a beast, Brian. I am in awe of that little number...but...it's double the amount I have available. Very nice though.
