hi,wondering what people think of the motad pipe for the ttr..have just bought one and seems to me like the power has shifted slightly
my old pipe,a loud crd absolute, would lift the front wheel if the throttle is snapped open at a walking pace, all be it with a bit of yanking on the bars, now it won't but will at a faster pace/high rpm,so as new chain and sprockets are due shortly was contemplating going for a lower ratio set up as i feel the bike now accelerates very easily, revs quite happily in all gears and pulls
not sure what gearing i'm running at the moment, but thinking due to the new pipe and can probably run low gearing with out losing to much from top end,all thoughts appreciated, thanks in advance and happy new year to all
I have one on my TTR 250 2005 Model. For some reason I can open the right foot peg as it hits the silencer stopping it from opening fully. Anyone else have this issue?
Yes! I pulled the foot peg down very hard and it comes down but did/ does mark the pipe. Worst thing about the motad is if you fit ac10 rear tyres they foul on the side of the can (sad face) but it does look nice!
If the Motad silencer was computer software then the footpeg issue would be referred to as a "feature"
I looked back at Andy's pictures of his son-in-law's TTR that we took up to Motad in Walsall to use as the jig and it did have the RH footpeg fitted so not sure exactly what happened there. Will have a look later
This was the brief to Motad regarding the design and build of the TTR silencer - which they met handsomely:
It had to be made from 100% stainless and therefore be the last exhaust an owner would need to buy. No more rotting out at the joint with the header pipe!
The silencer had to be as quiet as the original without a loss of power.
It needed to have a short tail pipe to deflect the hot exhaust gas away from the number plate and indicator.
It had to have a decent guard on the side of the silencer to stop the side panel touching the hot box.
Weight saving was not on the agenda but it ended up being about 1kg lighter than the standard box without being noisy.

PS to James - did the spacer under the rear fixing bolt not work?
I have checked the clearance on mine and the footpeg catches on the ipe as described.
I haven't done it but it would be possible to take a bit of metal off the retaining peg (which is the part that is catching on the silencer) without compromising its retaining ability. An easier alternative would be to pack the pipe out a bit by putting a washer in between the pipe and frame. I loosened my front bolt and the pipe didn't need to move in much to clear the footpeg.
If I was to make the mod I would probably do both, packing washer and shave a bit off the footpeg.
