Bashplate...

Hi all,

after a bit of thinking, iv'e decided that my 2004 TTR250 is in need of a bash plate. yes i could go and buy one, but as a boilermaker, i can do it myself, and at $100+ i dont think its a really fair deal!

anyway, would anyone have a template or something that could help me out with making a template?

cheers, Tyler

Hey Tyler,

There is a few threads on this, some may be useful to you. At the least you will get to know how they fit and the options to fit them. See here- http://ttr250.activeboard.com/t54782737/cardboard-bashplate/

For the price that you pay delivered from B&B Offroad (now with improved mounting brackets) you can't go wrong though. I payed $180.00 for mine but I did buy it with frame protectors and luggage rack. I must say, I was impressed with the quality and looks of it.

Of course, if you want to make your own, that is up to you.

Hope that helps?

Jarrah

Sorry but my cardboard template that i made up is gone. Making it did involve alot of lying on the floor trying to line things up. I noticed B&B bashplates are now $156 delivered. not sure if they have the new brackets that Jarrar mentions.

Its easy enough to make one from stainless steel or alu if u have a welder .

Any dc rod welder can weld these with the right rods .

I made a stainless one from a plate from an industrial kitcken once and it was a lot stronger than the alu ones .

If u have the facilities an hour or two will see it sorted and save alot off money .

thanks a lot Jarrah, those pics give me a good idea of what sort of shape i'm aiming for!
it is a thought about buying one Markvan, however im quite capable of making one, as you did so i think i'll give it a crack. what a bugga you dont have your template still! i hoist my bikes up with the chain block to work on them, so its a little easier to see underneath that way.

thanks a lot fellas

i've decided to make the plate from 1.2mm plate. with necessary gussets and a well thought out design, i think it should work alright.

Ingenious, well done.

I bet the bike would be more comfortable if you fitted a saddle. biggrinbiggrin

Thanks mate.
Haha, yes indeed it would bu much more comfortable! i hoisted the bike up with the chain block so it was at eye level, and removed the rear guard and seat so the chains could be connected to the frame. Well spotted though!
