Hello from Vietnam

I found this forum while researching tutorials on how to rebuild a TTR 250 engine.  I'm an American living/working in Vietnam and I recently bought a Japan Model Raid.  Not sure of the year because the VIN doesn't match the traditional VIN format.

I'm coming off of a 2013 KTM 500 EXC Motard so as you can imagine, the 250 is lacking a little bit of power compared to what I'm used to.

My wife will ride this bike.  It's 'tarded out and it rides pretty good.  It's perfect for the slow roads we have here.  I hope to get a set of dirt wheels/tires so we can go off-road.

She rides a DRZ400SM that's bored to a 450 with a FCR carb.

This bike gets a lot of looks here in Vietnam.  You'd think it was some kind of MotoGP bike!  As you can imagine, parts aren't readily available so I'm getting the stuff I may need and having my wife mule them back from Hawaii when she comes back to Vietnam in three weeks. We live in Hawaii and that's where we go for our allotted two trips home per year.

Anyway, I want to go through the engine because I don't want to have any issues when we're touring around.

Here's a funny twist.  There's a guy here at my workplace temporarily that used to work here full time.  He told me that his good friend used to own this bike.  And even weirder, that guy moved back to Hawaii when he left Vietnam!  Small world.  It'll be nice asking the previous owner questions and any helpful hints.

In case you're wondering why I'm here, my company is building a 1200 MW coal-fired power plant. I'm an operations leader here.

Here's some pics:

Welcome to the forum Stan handshake.gif

Nice pictures, I really enjoyed them. The countryside looks magical there, I would have never imagined it to look like that.

I look forward to helping you with any questions or problems that you may encounter during ''the Raid rebuild''. Please start a thread for this as I am sure there are many owners that will be interested in it.

Enjoy the forum TOTALLY! wink

Jarrah
