Its maybe a a copy of a GYTR tailpipe. I was going to try and repack it but when i pulled it apart it was impossible with out cutting a weld i think. Also the porferated inner pipe is only 70% the length of the muffler. Think i will take it to a muffler shop and see what he reckons.

I moded the the removeable cone in the rear of my GYTR... made it a lot quiter
I copyed the unit in the M&M pipe on the XT660...
Welded a disc on the end of the tube & drilled 12 13mm holes across the tube
4 rows of 3 holes..
Thnx Petenz. Any chance of a pic anytime in the next few weeks. no probs if you are busy as i think i get what youve done. I do want to use the GYTR tailpipe on the roads also so i will have to quieten it down.

Yours has been butchered.... But it's not hard to weld a new pipe on...
Thanks. That was quick. I will show muffler shop a photo of yours and get him to do that. In my end cap pic you can see abit of chicken wire. i just slipped it in for a noise test. 9 am here saturday morning so i will have to wait an hour or so. But i am going to copy yours. Thnx.
Can a TTR have to much back pressure in the tail pipe. Reason i ask is i had a insert made up like petenz showed me a pic of his. It was still to loud so i pack the 8 inch tailpipe insert with chicken wire and muffler packing. It sounds good now on idle and a rev. (problem being i cannot test ride it ). There doesnt seem to be to much as in exhaust pressure coming out of tailpipe end When i place my hand near it. I tried removing only 10 % of the packing and it was to loud again. It maybe trial and era testing to have the right amount of packing. I guess i will lose power if its to packed. But would it damage the motor at all. Pics of my tailpipe and petenz's insert should be in this thread. Thnx.

Yes you can have too much back-pressure. The main reason being that that too much back pressure will put more pressure and heat on rings, timing chain, bearings etc. and could lead to premature engine failure through overheating. This is because the heat that is generated by the combustion is not exhausted properly so it pushes it's way back into the cylinder, heating up all in its path. It would take a fair bit of back-pressure to do this but it is not impossible.
The other reason being that the bike is jetted for the standard exhaust. If there is not enough flow, it will make you run way too rich. This could lead to carbon build-up and eventually back-burn that could damage the motor due to overheating. However, this is not as likely to happen unless overly restricted.
Symptoms of too much back pressure are: lacks high speed power, poor fuel economy, hard starting and in the worst case scenario, overheating.
I hope you find the ''happy medium'' between too loud and too restricted.
Good luck!

Thanks Jarrah, i will check all those symtoms you mentioned for to much restriction on my first ride. Seeing its only the tailpipe insert i can do a few test runs and modify if needed in no time.
