REAR RACK FOR WHITE TTR OE (in the UK) - source or plans WANTED
Permalink

Hi All. After a provisional "trawl" through the forum looking for a rack - I find that most posts refer to racks fitting the blue bikes. I'm after a rack to for a white bike.

Do they have the same fittings?

I have just bought a white TTR unseen and it hasnt even arrived at mine yet, but One thing I DO know is that I will need a rack. I'm off to the The "VINCE" on it next year and dont really want to be weighed down with a rucksack. Only needed for typical "day on the trail" stuff - such as tool, tubes, lunch etc. We wont be riding all the way to Spain.

Does anyone have plans for, or a source for a rack that will fit? Even a link to thread if you dont feel like repeating something!

Thanks.

Welcome to the fold! Can't help you with the frame question, but here are photos of the racks on the 2 TTR250 s that won the VINCE this year, biggrin to give you some ideas...

There were also a 600XL and a DR200 in the team but you don't need to see them!

I built the black rack, but it took lots of time and patience - if you have a mate who can weld I can send you more detailed pics. The grey rack is a work of art but I have no idea who made it!

TTR perfect bike for the VINCE, an event I can't recommend highly enough. Probably see you there next year.

Simon.

Congratulations on winning "The Vince" Simon and well done the TTRs!

The event was advertised here but can't see any results posted online. Have you has something you can scan for us please?

Brian

I was on the Vince too, and can only say it was fabulous. I think Austin may be busy at school or something. I sent him some group shots. I'm at work at the moment so I can't get to them. I'll try and post something later.

Also, I might have rack that would fit. I think it was off a white one originally. Don't think it's perfect, mind.

Will try to remember to delve into the man-cave over the weekend.

Andy

Thanks Andy. Will try and dig out some pics of the trails when I've got more time.
I think Austin's flat out with the final cut of Mondo Sahara before the release in Oct so I'm not aware of any results table. I'll see if there's and more promo material available...
Simon.

Back on topic, there is a source of racks mentioned in the for sale section, "Steel rear luggage racks" but I've no idea how to do a link thingy...

Hopefully some pics of this and last year's VINCE events. I'm not aware of any online results table but as Andy implies, just making the effort, turning up and staying on the bike for up to 24 hours of fantastic trail riding over 2 days makes every team a winner! Next year's event I believe is based around Sort, SWish of Andorra. Great accommodation, great company and unbeatable trail riding with no pressure (although it does give you a warm feeling to do well!) and no angry Welsh farmers brandishing shotguns! Do it, or regret it for ever!

Brian, maybe we're a bit off topic, can you move this to event reports or something?

Simon.

Thanks for the pics and the info. My brother can weld but it looks terrible. I tell him every time that it looks cr*p but luckily its usually under a car. Eagerly awaiting The Vince. I was torn between this event and the one for twinshocks. Three of us lined up to do it so far with two of us now having bikes. We've got loads of bikes between the three of us already...11 I think at the latest count, but we'd been lacking something suitable. My Honda C70, XTZ750 and XTZ850 are all not quite right! Funny - I sent a mate to buy my bike for me as he lived closer (he'd bought a Serow just before I asked him to take a look at a TTR) He said if I didnt buy it - he would. That was recommendation enough for me to buy it "blind". When he got my new bike back to his place  - his wife says mine's nicer than his!

We'll probably trailer them down. I had a bad (non bike related accident) a couple of years back and have not attempted more than about 4 hours in the saddle since. Its a long story that I shall recount on the Vince maybe! I dont think we are planning on putting up a real challenge, although one of us is really competitive and I'm pretty good at map and compass work. The third will just want to stop and take lots of photos - and we'll all mostly be chatting to the locals. Its going to be a "journey" versus "destination" trade off.

I'll have to wait until the bike finally arrives at mine before measuring up / mocking up a rack. Thanks again.

Steve

Hi Simon

I can't move part of a thread, just the whole thing. Maybe start new topic in Events and copy your messages there and then delete them here? I can tidy up afterwards..........

Yeah, it goes a little something like Steel rear luggage racks - FOR SALE linky thingy

You will also find extensive information in the following thread... Rack. Something to build when you are too sick to ride!

Pictured below is a B&B Offroad luggage rack fitted to my TTR250. It is a bit more like ''eye candy'' than an actual carrying rack but still carries enough for me none the less. It also stops the rear guard from being scratched on those embarrassing moments out bush (which usually happens when a mate is borrowing it for the day :). wink

Nice pictures BTW, even if they are not (that) relevant to the topic of racks. smile

Enjoy!

Jarrah

IMAG0123.jpgThe off topic business is probably my fault. Sorry.
I'll post some other pics elsewhere.
In the meantime, I have these. I'll probably keep the one on the right. They are both a bit bent but they should bend back.

Fancy the one on the left?

Andy

Hi Andy. Will it fit the WHITE ones? This has been my question all along. I dont know enough about TTR's and I havent even taken delivery of mine yet. All the info on racks for the blue ones is interesting enough - but I'd like one that bolts straight on. if I have to fabricate stuff to get it to fit - I may as well get one built in its entirety.

provided it will fit a white one. What would you be looking for (incl any postage to Cambridgeshire).

Thanks,

Steve

My rack looks like the one on the right. I have just removed it from my 1997 white TTR and fitted it to my 2005 blue TTR. It picks up on exactly the same points - the two bolt points either side which hold the grab-handles onto the rear subframe.

My rack has pressed stainless steel sideplates that look identical to those on the right. The only issue I had when fitting to the blue TTR was that I had to trim a small amount of plastic from the rear fender to allow the front bolt of the lefthand side of the bracket tighten fully.

I strongly suspect either of those racks would fit a white TTR, just as they would fit a blue TTR.

Hi Steve. The one on the left has 'Raider' written on it in breaker's pen. I'm guessing it'll be fine.

Any reasonable offer, if you carry round my sarnies on next year's trip.

And you're welcome to check it out first. If it don't fit you can back it, no probs.

Andy
