I chopped up a scrap frame today and was surprised to find the upper subframe rails were blocked earth and fine grit for about 4" from the main engine cradle - see pic below.
The lower tube was clear - see below:
How on earth did the dirt get into the upper rails? They appear to be a completely closed loop
It explains why frames occasionally "crack" at that point.
I am not recommending it but would drain holes situated where arrowed in the pic below solve any potential problems?
