Installing stock suspension link question

If have a Kuoba  lowering link on mine and would like to put the stock link back on and give it a try. I noticed that the stock link the previous owner took off had the set off needle bearings in it. I assume the the kuoba link had it's own set of bearings when he bought it? The bearings in the stock link look good but a couple fell out. Should I use them or will the ones in the Kuoba link fit?

Also should I take out all the sticky wax lube that is in the stock link that hold the bearings in there and use a standard bearing grease? I don't see a zerk fitting on my Kuoba link although I havent taken the link out of the bike yet. Is there supposed to be one? My bike is a 2003 Open Enduro model.

Thank you for any help!

PS there does not seem to be a big following for this bike in the U.S. It's great to have this resource!!!

Use the old bearing from the standard link if you still have all the needle bearings.

Do not use standard wheel bearing grease! use a soap-based lithium grease like Bel-ray or Morey's Bigfoot.

Do not use bearings from other races/sleeve as they will have different wear and must be replaced as a complete set.

The 2003 TTR250 does not have the grease nipples (zerk fitting) as only some older Open Enduro models have them fitted, but unsure about your Kouba lowering link.

The 2003 is not an Open Enduro model, it comes under ''trail bike''.

Enjoy!

Yep - the Kouba link should have a zerk (called a grease nipple in the UK wink ) - see http://www.koubalink.com/TTR250.html

I am surprised at the lack of following for the TTR in the US. I though it was the TTRs biggest market  confuse

We get great support from owners in Australia and New Zealand biggrinbiggrin

Thanks Jarrah, some good points about using the original bearings in the original link. So what is the Open Enduro model? Mine is a 2003 with the blue plastic tank etc. and electric start, I thought that made it the OEM model. It was made street legal.

Thanks again for the tips!

Roger

Brian,

Thanks for the info. I will look for the grease nipple when I pull it out. Yes, I am suprised too, but if it wasn't for this dedicated site it is just a bunch of random sites to get info from in the US. There is good info but no other dedicated forum that I have found. Seems like some bikes have 2 or 3 sites. There is a ton of info for the Kawasaki KLR 250. Finding a street legal TTR 250 in the U.S. seems pretty rare at least in So. Calif. Maybe I'm wrong! I'm new to these bikes but it seems like a killer trail machine so far!!

Thanks,

Roger

The Open Enduro models are between 1993-1999 and have steel tanks.

Anything from 1999-2013 (plastic tank) is a TTR250 trail bike.

I guess they could not call it a enduro model once the WR400's were brought out (little joke, as I have one). wink

Enjoy!
