Saw this thread when you posted it but was hesitant to reply until I had actually mounted the pipe, but I finally put it on today.
I had thought to try a WR pipe after seeing Matteo's posts (LINK) a good while back & bought a WR exhaust on ebay fairly cheap. Matteo's process seemed pretty straight forward but when I went to fit mine I could see it wasn't going to be as easy. I am not entirely sure, but I will attribute the difference to his pipe being from an earlier steel-framed bike & mine ('09) being from an aluminum frame, so the bends were different.
In the end, I cut the tube just forward of the lower mounting on the TTR & added an approx. 3" straight section of 1 3/4" SS pipe to mate with the TTR head pipe. After cutting some expansion slots on the end, the TTR pipe gasket fit inside with just a little persuasion. I made an adapter for the rear mount as I didn't want to re-mount the hanger on the can or modify the TTR frame. The stand-off tube is slightly angled down to align with the WR mount. I cut the other fixed pipe mount off the discarded WR pipe & re-welded that to the pipe where it needed to go.
In my particular case, the previous owner of the WR exhaust had removed the end tip, which I wanted, so mine has a home-brew version of the GYTR WR accessory part, which is a larger diameter than the stock WR tip.
I would say the TTR now has a deeper tone, maybe a little louder but not by much, but does run noticeably better. Seems to have more low to mid power though I only have about 20 miles
on it just today. Time will tell how it does in the woods. As I recall, I weighed both pieces when I got the WR pipe & it was around 2lbs lighter than the stock TTR exhaust
cant find it for looking now but think I saw a post on cutting down a WR exhaust can to fit on a TTR on hear or am I going nuts cant find it now.......... or but might have been the ADV forum or TRF Ho what it is to get old at least I remembered too put me pants on today and where I was going. hacksaw an TIG welder on stand by
That was more than likely the one I was thinking of brian I have come across a little box with a 02 WR in parts in the shed at the bottom of the garden. been there 8 years or more after the last workshop move any how after pulling it all out turns out I had the hole bike minus the front end that went on my 500 enfield some years back stuffed in there. [ dam could have put that on the TTr ] the motors smashed to bits it let go at about 10000 rpm an a mate dumped it on me and moved too OZ. well long to shot of it is there's a nice FMF can on the frame and the standard can is in there as well seem's a pity to leave it there now I know about it
Well, not so much of an update. Did get a leak so I'm in the process of welding a new connection piece up to it, having chopped a bit off the end of the header. Will continue the thread when I've finished it, but I'm a bit busy with building works on my house at the mo'
Thanks for the help all have been in the workshop today pipes on and looking an sounding good will post up some pic's in the daylight tomorrow. quick spin out on the road with a new plug in of about 10 miles no flat spots pick up seems faster and plug a nice brown after a look.
ok pic's of FMF Wr pipe on the bike no welding just turned a bit of thick wall tube to fit over front pipe and inside the can pipe. and made a s steel ring to fit over the rear pipe to give a new front mount for the can. total time taken about two hours
I used a stock muffler and inlet pipe from a 2007 kx450f with a fmf spark arrestor mounted in the end.Had to cut off 1&1/2 inches off the inlet side and cut slots on the inlet pipe and used the stock header pipe and packing.This let the muffler and inlet pipe use the same mounting holes as the stock ttr muffler uses.Took about 1 hour and the performance is way up,as well as fuel mileage.Noise was also up ,so i welded a closed end pipe to the spark arrestor internal with a nice bend and slotted the pipe in several places to get the correct sound level that i could tolerate.Like I said performance and fuel mileage is up .Fuel mileage is up to 60 mpg with kx450f muffler, from 50 mpg with stock muffler.No other changes.
