Me too!

Looking for a rack & (ideally) alu panniers for my '04 TTR.
Or does anyone know where I can get it custom made at a reasonable price?

This is the original Yamaha TTR ali rack. It is an excellent bit of kit that occasionally starts a bidding war if it appears on eBay!

This is the stainless steel (stronger but heavier) version that I got produced by a local fabricator based on the original design:

The guy also has the designs to make side rails. He did this for a local TRF chap doing some overlanding on his TTR and wanted to use soft panniers. The side rails are easily removed when not needed.

Hopefully someone will come up with a solution, I am looking at the cycle rack from the states, just not keen on importing, but might be the only option, I am looking for a robust rack for travelling, using soft luggage.

the original design but similar to the last 1 would be the ideal mix, the copy of the original looks very heavy,

How much are the last ones, strong but heavy ? maybe ending just after the rear upright fixings.

This was an alternative and cheaper design that another local chap made up in steel bar but it was quite heavy. Very strong but heavy!

Both fabricators still have the patterns. If anyone is interested in getting a price to have one made up, then I can check to see if they would be willing to supply direct.

Yeah Ive done a few searches myself,
Its useful to see what people are actually using and the Pro`s and Con`s of them,
Maybe get a design together that is spot on, manufacturing isnt a hard job.

Go for it!

Make sure that there is enough spacing where the side rails bolt to the frame. That seemed to be the biggest issue trying to get the Totally TTRs racks to fit properly and not push against the rear mudguard.

Also, if you use the rear indicator mounts, consider how you can still use the original indicators with the rack. The original Yamaha design is good in this respect.

Just checking, are you thinking of making a few and offering them to other TTR owners or just to make one for yourself?

I wont be going to all the effort for just the one, But I want to get it right,
it seems there maybe call for a few, So I might get a batch of 10 made up and see what happens,
They are local and should be able to handle the demand haha

I have heard from Dave Chesney of Hand Crafted Steel Solutions and he would be pleased to make up some more racks.

As his racks are powder coated it is more economical for him to make them up in batches so please contact him asap if you are interested in buying one of his racks so that he can plan accordingly.

They would probably be around the £85 mark plus p&p but that is just a guess. He will let you know when you contact him.

The rack frames went to a forum member in Australia and the panniers to a local guy in Devon. Both were home made as (a) there wasn't such a rack available for the TTR and (b) the price of off-the-shelf aluminium panniers is equivalent to the UK's GDP no

The rear mudguard had to be chopped to accommodate the frame as shown in the pic below.

Are you looking for a complete kit including the rack and panniers?

Hi Brian,

Yep I'm looking for the whole lot, or at least the rack as aluminium boxes are relatively easy to source (China wink). It would be ideal to replicate a tried and tested design rather than try to come up with something from scratch!

Hi all, I have an original alloy rack as pictured in the sixth photo. I'd love to swap it for a right hand white side panel if anyone has one? Alternatively, it is for sale if anyone wants it? I'm in Woodcote, RG8 near Reading and I can post it.

Hi Mud

It is getting harder to find good RH white panels as they are usually the first to go in get offs etc. What about finding a tatty blue panel and vinyl wrapping it in white? I have a pair of panels that were vinyl wrapped and its a very good finish.

The sale of the rack should cover the cost of the panel and wrapping.

I didn't mean to mislead but the vinyl wrapped panels I have are not in white.

I attach a couple of pics though just to show what can be done - just imagine a white finish wink

how well dose the vinyl wrap stay on.... dose it bubble like the decal/stickers do after a while...

My guess is that the tank wrapping would bubble but I only bought the side panels so can't tell you - sorry!
